Battery lasted 5 years w/ maintainer

Well my 6v Sam's battery (Energizer) lasted five years before it died; and I keep it on a Battery Tender maintainer 24/7. Before using the maintainer, I would get about three years before they started to die. I know this topic comes up for debate now and then, so I'll post this info just FYI...

Is there any reason why I shouldn't powder coat the water pump? Does the heat become an issue?

    Tool cabinet slider lub ?

I have a typical metal tool cabinet, like a craftsman, with the pull-out drawers. Every so often I need to WD-40 the sliders because the drawers feel gummy and hard to pull out all the way. After WD-40'ing they pull out fine, but it doesn't last. What would be a better spray lubricant that I...

    Warping sheet metal - sandblasting

Ok, I have read many times that sandblasting sheet metal causes it to warp, and I proved it because I did it. But I want to know why it warps. I was always told that it warps because the heat generated in the metal from the sand blasting on it. This is where I loose belief. I was using a small...

Ever try that Traveler Oil at Tractor Supply?

I Changed the oil the other day and I'm old school so I use straight SAE 30. The Price sure has gone up, I remember when 1 qt was a buck and a half. I see Tractor Supply has Traveler Oil, SAE 30 Diesel oil in 1 and 2 gal jugs for better price than a single qt. Anybody try the "diesel" SAE 30 oil?

Rear breaks howl/growl only in reverse

It has been doing this forever and I've just lived with it. When I'm backing out, the minute I step on the brake pedal (even lightly) the rear brakes give a loud growl. You know the cartoon dog Scooby Do when he goes "Huuh?" - that's a good description of the sound. Other than that, the brakes...

    Plugs and stuck valves..awe!

I know I don't post a lot here, I prefer to listen and learn. I appreciate this forum and all of ya'll! It appears that my 1930 coupe has developed some stuck valves. I admit I let her sit longer than I should have, but after having this girl for for 20+ years and this is the first time I've...

    OT- Multi disc question again

This is not for a Model A but you guys are great so I want to get your opinion. I'm about to reassemble this multi-disc clutch and you see the roller bearing that goes on first and stays inside the clutch assembly. First question: 1. What type of grease would be best to put on this roller...

A bit off topic, need semi-solid graphite

This is a bit off topic, but you guys have really good advice so I thought I'd ask. I'm looking for some graphite that I can re-pack into the grooves of a bronze bushing to replace the graphite that has worn out. All Ive been able to find is powder or a stick that would melt away at engine...

OK, what solvent do you guys use in your parts washer?

My parts washer has been dry for a few years but I need to get it usable again. Back in the day, I had varsol in it but I never liked the idea of how it hardened my chemical gloves and then made my hands tingle afterwards - I know that can't be good, HAHA! I've heard of using Kerosene and some...

Suggestions on how to rebuild 3X spark plugs?

All this talk of spark plugs got me thinking, so I dug out an old set of Champion 3X plugs from the parts bin (you know we never throw anything away)...(But Don't call me a hoarder! HA!) Whats the best way to restore/rebuild and test these plugs? I've read about taking them apart, soaking in...

    Disassembling speedometer gear "turtle"

This is for those who are trying to figure out (as I was) how to disassemble and rebuild the speedometer driven gear that mounts on the torque tube, otherwise known as the "turtle." I kept reading about removing the end cap and some said to put a small hole in it, to which a screw could be...

Door sill plate catching on shoes!

I hate these cheap aluminum sill plates. I keep catching my shoes on them which makes them stick up more. I'd remove them if there weren't two screw holes there. Do they make better versions of these or am I the only one getting caught on them?

What kind of fire extinguisher do you carry?

What kind of fire extinguisher do you carry in your Model A? I have a typical home center unit but I'm reading that they leave a white residue that can be difficult to remove. I see there are expensive "automotive" types that are clear and leave no residue, which I'm considering now. Alan
