OT- Multi disc question again

This is not for a Model A but you guys are great so I want to get your opinion.

I'm about to reassemble this multi-disc clutch and you see the roller bearing that goes on first and stays inside the clutch assembly. First question:

1. What type of grease would be best to put on this roller bearing?

The next question deals with a solution to grease on the clutch discs. This is supposed to be a dry clutch and when test driving it I found the clutch did not slip very well when it was disengaged. When I took it apart I found the discs had grease on them, especially the first one next to the back of the flywheel. I'm pretty sure the grease came from too much grease on this roller bearing.
A guy at Fort Wayne Clutch suggested I might try to cut a teflon 'grease seal' to put on before the roller bearing that would hold the grease in.

2. So what do you think about this idea? I was thinking of some 1/16 thick stuff that would fit kinda snug up in there.

Thanks for the input!
Alan

OK, the roller bearing fits down inside the hub with about 3/8" to the outside edge.

You might just find a lipped grease seal that will fit or can be made to fit. BTW what are you working on?????

This is a 1923 REO truck, aka Speedwagon.

I have cut a "test" seal out of heavy paper to see if there's room. If that will fit up in there with no binding or crushing then I'll keep playing with this idea - unless you guys think it's not a good idea.

(but just to keep myself welcomed, here I also Have a '30 Model A Standard Coupe)

Isn't the standard coupe the rarest body style of all the coupes? I owned a 1928 special coupe for a while sold it for $125.00 to a tool and die maker who built some interesting tools for bodywork one was a fender bead profile used in a hand vise that worked amazingly well.

This is obviously not a Model A clutch unit. I suggest that you do some research and see if you can find that sized bearing in a sealed unit.

While out looking for teflon sheet, a nice gentleman at an industrial supply gave me a piece of 1/8" thick UHMW sheet and I cut out a piece to fit. I was really curious to see if it would cause any obstruction and it doesn't seem to.
You guys see any problems with this?

I very much appreciate the responses.
Alan

That's exactly what I was thinking I'd make if it was mine. The original must have had something to hold the grease in.
