Battery lasted 5 years w/ maintainer

Well my 6v Sam's battery (Energizer) lasted five years before it died; and I keep it on a Battery Tender maintainer 24/7. Before using the maintainer, I would get about three years before they started to die.

I know this topic comes up for debate now and then, so I'll post this info just FYI, not necessarily to start another debate.

( I was hoping to get one from Rural King, but they won't ship them anymore)

Well, I have cars with 9 (6V) and 12! years (12V) old batteries, and they are still ok.
NO use of battery tenders.

I found way in the past that the Sam's batteries seemed to have a 3 year clock on them no matter which vehicle I put them in.

The various Interstate batteries I have been using seem to get into the 12 year area before they fail.

I am sure my brother will chime in as he gets like 6 to 10 years on batteries. Some are new and some are used in his A. I know he has used a Interstate battery from the dead pile at interstate and another time he used 1/2 a 12V battery (yes he cut the dead cells off). Not sure if he is on the Optima battery now or if that was a couple of batteries ago.

The guy selling maintainers at Hershey tried to sell me on one using "it will make your battery last twice as long
At the time my Optima was 14 years old --- he said it would double my battery life to 5-7 years--- my method is neglect, I put it in and forget it, regular battery's last me 7-9 years, the battery I have now was over 12 when I cut it in 1/2 to make it 6V, now 5 years later it has failed

I feel that Mose people have their charge rate too low for their use of the car, and not restored the electric system to OE specs

Beware of using any of those perpetual battery tender / chargers. Leaving a device plugged in creates a constant ground. Electrolysis action kicks in and disintergration of metal in places within the vehicle accelerates. On Model A Ford cars, areas such as the body subrails will act as current conduits. While the car sleeps safely in the snug dry garage, that battery tender is causing it to deteriorate.

Have been meaning to put together information gathered through direct experience over the years on this overlooked subject - Electrolysis.
