    Exhaust sealant question

Had to remove the intake/exhaust manifold to repair the distributor hold down bolt that was stripped out. I did not separate the manifolds & all the flanges are good/flat with a straight edge. Am ordering the one piece gasket like what it had on there. Around a couple of the exhaust ports...

    Putting oil in distributor shaft.

Pulled the distributor out of my 29 & the inside of the shaft housing was dry, even had small amount of rust. I believe I have the 2 piece shaft, bottom of the distributor keys into another shaft at the bottom of the housing. My question is should I pull the shaft occasionally and add oil...

    what a disappointment

29 Tudor, stock except for FSI electron ignition. Have had car for 7 years without any major problems. The problem is overheating when idling more than a few minutes or cruising over 45. I have a temperature gauge and have double checked with a handheld probe. Over the years have...

Did I just bend my front axle?

Used my floor jack in the center of the front axle to raise car which I have done before. Later the A was sitting in driveway and looking at the front from a distance it looks like my front tires are toed in. Have not done any measurements but to my eye it looks obvious. Did I screw up?

    Gas Boiling

When the car is shut off the carb leaks gas. I can usually hear the gas boiling in the carb and then starts leaking. Does this do any damage to the carb by the gas becoming pressurized & being forced out. Is there a fix for this besides letting the car idle until it dies, besides I still get...

    Finally Fume Free

After owning my tudor for 5 years have finally resolved my gas fume issues. Started out with dripping carb - fixed, steering wheel bracket - fixed, gas gauge - fixed. Still had fumes after these fixes & couldn't find the source after many attempts. Finally got the idea of pressurizing my...

    Going Crazy Smelling Gas Fumes

Getting a strong gas smell inside my 29 tudor & believe it is coming from the gas gauge. The steering wheel bracket has been converted to a 31 and there is no sign of any leakage there, same with the shutoff valve & fuel line connections. Have checked them all by smell and by rubbing a tissue...

    Dash Camera

Have been thinking about getting a dash cam for my every day vehicle. Would also like to use it in my 29 tudor. Trying to find one that has its own battery power. Ones I have looked at operate strictly off the vehicles 12v and of course the A is 6v. Any suggestions?

    Strange Vibrations

My 29 tudor has an off and on vibration that is puzzling. Sometimes when I start up and drive down the road it is smooth and vibration free, can run 45 - 50+ and is a great ride. Other times I start getting a vibration around 40 and is really bad at 45 and have to keep it just under 40. The...

    Gas smell problem solved!

Have had my 29 tudor for 4 years & have always had a problem with smelling gas. Sometimes while driving especially around town & it always after pulling into the garage when parked. The Mrs wasn't happy about it either, would leave the door open for a while until it dissipated. Would get some...

    Brake reassembly questions

Doing a complete brake job on my tudor. Practically all new parts, cast iron drums etc. Mainly want to know if any kind of lube is used in the floaters on the front or in the cams on the rear or should they operate dry? Anything used on the rollers? Grease or never seize?

    Replacing my Brake Drums

Replacing my brake drums along with installing new brakes. Do have access to a 50 ton press to install the new lug bolts. Is there a way to remove the old lug bolts without having to buy the $100 swedge cutter? Will order one if necessary but looking for alternatives - thanks,

    Broken Lug Bolts

Rotating my tires yesterday. While tightening the lug nuts I broke one off on the front drivers side. Then one of the rears instead of tightening started rotating, guess the bolt has broken loose inside the drum. How do I replace these bolts? Looked in Snyders catalog at new bolts, says they...

Head Problems - What's the Problem

Why is there so many problems with the cylinder head on an A. Is it an engineering/design problem that there are so many issues when dealing with the A's heads and gaskets. Seems that this should be one of the simplest item to install without problems - 2 flat surfaces bolted together. But...

    Another Vibration Question

My stock 29 tudor runs very smooth most times at any speed. Once in a while I will get a moderate to severe vibration especially around 45 mph. When this happens I can stop the car, turn if off, restart and then it will run smooth again. The key seems to be shutting down the engine. If I...

    Is It Worth It?

Have read many threads about using white vinegar in the cooling system & have considered doing that to my stock 29 tudor. I use a 160 deg thermostat & a temp gauge. Do not have overheating problems while driving. The only problem is when idling for more than a few minutes (normal Ohio summer...
