All good suggestions. Thanks, gents! Here's a pic of the car:
FWIW the appeal of this car is how solid and straight the body is and the fact that it was restored before the repro industry hit its stride. Plus the price was right.
We will service and inspect the car very carefully before heading out. And the modern chase car is a 2009 VW Rabbit with just over 50K miles... so hopefully it won't break down. LOL!
The fan is a concern and I'll be looking at that very carefully. And I did question the seller very carefully about the cleanliness of the fuel tank, as I've been down that road before... says they never see anything in the sediment bowl to speak of.
I will have some 600W and trans lube to top up if needed, as I do expect some leakage. Other spares: hose kit, fan belt, coil, points, rotor, condenser, plugs. Tires are nearly new. Will have coolant, oil, etc.
The car has been in the current owner's collection for about 20 years. The guy handling the sale for him personally owns 6 Model As and says he's owned dozens over the years. In his opinion (they're cheap, right? LOL!) he'd jump in this car to drive it anywhere with no worries. I doubt I'd even consider this trip without that recommendation.
An ex-coworker has been transporting collector cars for several years and he's been put on alert that could get a call to come drag us in.
Agree wholeheartedly about the comfort of having great vendors who can overnight anything needed. I've rejoined both MARC and MAFCA (was a member of both many years ago) but don't know if I'll get the roster stuff before we leave this coming weekend. I do hope to be able to hook up with Model A guys during the trip.
Should have a Facebook page set-up in a day or so, where I'll be blogging and documenting the trip. I run a hobby website so am online daily.
What I need some help locating is a battery-powered red LED light or light strip, as this car only has the LH taillight. Saw something along those lines on the back of an A on a recent local club tour but have been unable to reach the guy who owned the car so far. Any suggestions on this? Been searching on Amazon but haven't found anything yet...
