Overdrive won't disengage

You fixed it Mike! I put the fuse in and the draw was still there. Turned the key off and got under the car. There's a small steel hanger on the frame with two wires from the governor and another wire bundled together in it to keep them out of harm's way. I pulled the harness out, peeled it back and separated the wires a little and Presto, the ammeter draw was not there with ignition on. I crossed my fingers, got in the car and took off on about my 14th test drive. Everything works, goes in to OD above 28 when I let up,, comes out at 21, kicks down as it should and lever can be pulled out at rest. I'm a happy camper. Thanks to all the guys who chipped in with advice and suggestions.

Thanks Mike!! And everybody else! It's working like it should. Put the fuse back in and current draw was still there. Turned key off and got under car. There is a steel loop attached to frame with two wires from governor and another wire bundled and snugged in it to keep them out of harm's way. I pulled them out of the little bracket, and separated them a little. Got up, turned key on, no current draw. Took off on about my 14th test drive and YIPPEE, everything works as it should. The car will go in to OD when I let up on the gas at 28 mph or more, will Kick Down into conventional when I punch it and will go into conventional 3-speed mode below 21 mph. I also can pull the OD lever out when I stop. I'm just going to leave it in, no mountains in Minnesota. Next job will be to get the wires replaced and properly suspended again, but I'm a happy camper. Thanks Again.

It's working! I put the fuse back in, turned on the key and still a big current draw. I turned the key off, got under the car and pulled a bundled set of wires, two of them from the OD governor, out of a little steel loop hanger attached to the frame where they were snugged in to keep them out of harm's way. I separated them a little, turned the key on, no current draw. Started her up and went on about my 14tu test drive and everything worked as it shoul. It goes in when you let up at 30mph or netter, Kicks down when you punch the accelerator, reverts to conventional 3-speed mode under 21mph and I can pull the lever out at a stop sign. Now I'll just have to replace those 59 year old wires and get them properly suspended again. Thanks again to all. I'm a happy camper.

It's working! I put the fuse back in,turned key on, still big current draw on ammeter. Got under car, pulled out a bundle of wires, including 2 from OD governor, that were suspended on a little steel loop on the frame. I separated them a little , crawled out from under and turned key on. No current draw. Went for my 14th or 20th test drive and YIPPEE everything works as it should including going into OD above 30 mph by letting up on the gas, kicking down out of overdrive for passing, reverting to standard 3-speed mode below about 21 mph and I can pull the lever out at a stop sign. I can't thank you guys enough for your help.
