How bad have I screwed up?

I refer to the first post where the plug spun and that was the reason for removing pan.

Was there oil in pan at that time?

Dumb question, but was the engine ran dry before you came on the scene?

I had my lower radiator hose let go on the highway one day i was going 50 i cooked that damned motor like it was a horse shoe in a furnice burnt the paint ect.. let it cool and limped it to the next exit. did roadside fix and filled with water from the 99s i had no problem. (as long as you don't touch the head it will probably be fine if you do pull it you will have to get it surfaced)

To my knowledge the car was not ran dry, my uncle and I got it to run by making a wire that allowed it to run and he said water was coming from exhaust. Then my great uncle who rebuilds model a's told me it was a head gasket problem.

Here you state:

I had the oil plug fixed by welding a repair kit on it. I have to replace the head gasket now because I did not have any water in it. I know I will receive a lot of flac for that but I cannot help what I did, I would like any advice on replacing the head gasket that anyone gives. I can tell that the engine just over heated because one of the wire harnes had melted to the block.

But here you state:

Did you run it without water or not? It doesn't have to be dry of water but if you ran it low enough to melt wiring to the block, you better check out more than the head gasket.

What about the oil pump not sitting in its proper place, like the pump flange turned slightly so the pin doesnt go in the hole in the block, then the pump would not fit into the drive on the shaft.
As said in the above post, take the little plug out and crank the eng and see.

What should I check and how? What should I be looking for?
Scored cylinder walls, rings with no tension, burnt valves, hotspots on the deck and that's only what to look for without tearing down. You could have melted babbitt or anything. Sounds like it got pretty hot.

Thanks thats exactly what I was hoping for was some advice, thankfully my great uncle thinks that it might be just the head gasket and I would trust him considering he has 3 A's and our local MARC Members come to him

Just an update for anyone who is interested, I have successfully replaced the head gasket and had to fix a broken stud and then a wiring harness and now today I am waiting on a new water pump because the fan would not come off of the pump and I broke the pulley and also notice that my water pump housing it missing a pretty decent size chunk. Has anyone had a pulley seize to the shaft before? I guess I have to attribute it to the motor overheating.

Even though as I go I encounter problem after problem I still love working in it and cannot wait to take it on a drive once it's all together

Keep learning about your Model A and deal with the problems as you are doing. I have had some unexpected setbacks in rebuilding the brakes on my 31 Town Sedan but also can't wait to get it back on the road. I am learning new things about it everyday. Your car will be back on the road before you know it!
