I've heard that's what they did during the Great Depression. Corn sold for 10 cents a bushel so was cheaper to burn than coal.

Ethanol is like raising chickens. The chickens lay two eggs a day. You bake bread to feed the chickens and it takes two eggs. You have not gained a thing and you have wasted energy by baking the bread and you have nothing to eat because you feed the bread to the chickens. Hope you do not drop an egg and break it. Now you are really in the hole. Try to get the government to think this way is almost impossible because of the corruption in Washington and campaign funding etc.

Here is the fact, it's the additives and derivatives that are added to the oil that stabilize the gasoline that we burn. If in the future the industry is going to formulate fuels from recent organic carbon sources rather than ancient ones, which is a given, those fuels are going to be unblended. Simply. We need to formulate an additive that is non toxic as possible to replace and or stabilize the critical chemicals that ethanol does not contain. Add a can to your juice and it mixes and you are good. Get crackin to solve catalytic cracklin. The corn rice and etc that are used by the ton and train load to make beer and spirits and a lot of things takes out only the sugar portion of the carbon matrix in the grain. The carbohydrate component is left intact. Animals that eat grains do not need the sugar portion they can utilize the carbs and proteins of the grain, thus extracting the sugar does not render the grain unfit for human or animal consumption. 90% of the entire worth of the sugar aspect, which is what we harvest for fuel is left within the grain in the field, the grain is left to dry due to the fact that it has so much sugar in it that it is explosive and combustible, 90% of the yield of sugar is allowed to evaporate into the environment unchecked. Truth be told that if we could actively capture that evaporated naturally occurring free ethanol, we would not have an energy problem, we could also quickly reverse or stabilize our total dissolved carbon content within the atmosphere at a rapid pace. Ever wonder what that pleasant sweet smell of leaves is on the forest floor? Opportunity.

I suggest that instead of ranting on this site, that I doubt if any of congress will read, you contact your congressmen and senators directly reminding them that our votes count as they learned this election. Back it up by voting.....

This government program is going to bite us just like Fannie May and Freddie Mack. Ethanol is the biggest rip off of the United States that has come along for a long time.
So true. That, along with "carbon credits" which will be bought and sold by politicians who are the primary owners of "carbon foot print companies." Just wait. In time there will be very limited "traditional" gasolene produced for autos due to government control. We are being fooled, big time.

In my state ethanol is 10% corn, enough to eat the old lacquer off your fenders. I know! We have about 20 stations in our town that sell non oxygenated fuel in high octane. I use this in all my old cars and all small engines in yard implements as well. They are pushing for 20% and already Flex Fuel GM cars take 15%. It stuff is crap but the worst part is your tax dollars subsidize $1.00 for each gallon sold as it is not only expensive to make, but the pollution created by the process is not good. Corn was made to be used as food. If you want cheap gas drill in the USA where we have more than every Muslim nation combined. The largest refinery in the USA is now underway in S. Dakota and if the tree huggers and 'not in my back yard' folks move aside, we can open the Baaken Reserve in ND, Montana and Canada. No opinins here, haha.

The ethanol industry has employed the most successful propaganda campaign ever launched and all at the expense of the American taxpayer/consumer. If ethanol is such a great energy source why do ethanol plants burn natural gas?
