Adjusting the timing on a 34 ford v8

Rs,
Let's just say it was me that did the work. Send the carb and distributor back pronto I'll set them up again. What is the condition of your inner distributor caps ? Too
big a gap between the tips of the rotor and the inner terminals can cause this issue.
Be sure to check continuity of the spark plug wires and inner caps. This wire
and cap continuity can be checked with a simple battery operated test light. What
I do is clip one end of the test light onto the spark plug end of the wire and clip the
other end onto the correct terminal on the inner cap. It is not uncommon to find one or two wires with no continuity.

Charlie,
I’ve no doubt as to the work that was done, and I appreciate your integrity in this matter. The problem seems likely a stuck valve. I replaced the fuel tank(new), fuel lines, fuel pump(rebuilt)and carb(rebuilt), distributor and coils rebuilt too. Wires and plugs new and gapped properly, and I am noticing one of the cylinders a little “wet” and that plug is black vs the other seven. I’m going to try running it a little more and see if marvel will loosen it up(other than a yearly start for the past ten+ years she’s been in a barn.)

Have you verified that the spark plug wires are correctly plugged into the inner caps of the distributor? The caps are embossed with the correct spark plug/cylinder number.

I’ll switch carbs tomorrow. Plugs in right order, we double checked.
Thank you all! My first early Ford is quite a learning experience!
