How do you remove the plug wires from a Helmut Dist.

I can't seem to pry the cover off over the wires, afraid of breaking it.

    Centrifugal Advance Springs

Are they these flat springs, or are there other springs inside? Don't seem to have much tension, and the outer ones ares not flat against the inners. Do I take the staked screw in the center out if I want to take it apart? TIA

Are v8-60 intake and exhaust valves the same?

Thanks Raybee. I have only one valve with the Ford script, the rest have a blank, flat top.

Are v8-60 intake and exhaust valves the same?

OK, I've had my introduction to split guide installations. Whew! Maybe a bit easier on the bigger engines where you can get your fingers in there. Anyway just wondering, I probably should have replaced my horse shoe clips, some were a bit distorted. Is that common practice? They are all up...

Are v8-60 intake and exhaust valves the same?

Look the same, but are they different? I have seen listings for two different part numbers and other listings for the same part number for both. TIA

Valve spring pressure with solid lifters - V8-60

Thanks Tony! Do you use stock springs? My initial measurements indicate a need for about .125" of shimming to hit 45 on the seat. Coil bind occurs a half inch later so with .260 lift I should be OK. Sound good?

Valve spring pressure with solid lifters - V8-60

Thanks for the reply. Stock lifter weigh about 30 grams, these are about 60, just a little worried about the extra lard. A .060 shim is suggested on the larger engines, might try that.

Valve spring pressure with solid lifters - V8-60

The adjustable lifters I'm installing are quite heavy compared to the stock hollow lifters. Also using a mild cam regrind, stock lift with more duration (230 at .050). Stock spring pressure is 30lbs. closed and 50 open. Thinking about shimming, stiffer springs not available that I know off...

    Piston and Rod orientation

I forgot which way my pistons and rods were oriented. 1940 V8-60. Don't see any wrist pin offset, no marks on piston tops or rods. Can they go either way?

    Red's adjustable lifters

Sorry didn't get a notification of your post. Schneider reground my cam, the specs are on their web site. I got the 260. I did read a couple of negative comments about Schneider after the fact though. I have not yet degreed mine in. http://schneidercams.com/

    Red's adjustable lifters

I asked H&H when I was shopping for lifters, they said they didn't have them. Red's were the only ones I found. My reground cam card says .010" lash for intake and .012" exhaust.

    Red's adjustable lifters

No, never heard back. Did more measuring, the bottom hole in the lifter sits below the casting area for the lifter bores. I would have to grind into the casting area of the camshaft bore substantially and then drill holes. Not going to do that. That leaves the .120 diameter top holes, which I...

    Red's adjustable lifters

Thanks, great photo of the various lifters. These were the only lifters I was able to find currently available. Haven't been able to get an answer back from Red.

    Red's adjustable lifters

Never saw any that look like that (maybe someone else has) Maybe it's the picture but the adjusting screw looks big. You have a better shot going for the big hole for obvious reasons. Thanks for the reply. It's a 60hp so the lifter diameter is smaller, the screw head is 7/16". I initially...

    Red's adjustable lifters

Do you drill for and hold these from turning by the large hole on the bottom or the small ones (4) near the top? Thanks.

    Adjustable lifters

OK got it. I'm waiting for my cam to come back from Schneider, then I'll be able to see how much the base circle has been reduced. Thanks!
