    '32-'48 clutch release shaft removal?

How do I remove the clutch release shaft; the fork pin is peened over and I can't get to it? Does someone offer new clutch release shafts? If someone is making new ones then I won't have to bother with removal of old one.

Math for valve to head clearance?

Offy heads with valve pockets .425" deep, compressed copper gasket .062" and net lift .361"; the math says I should have valve to head clearance of .126". When I clay I get .090". Have I left something out in my calculations? My valve pocket depth varies; should it be uniform all around or is...

    Aluminum heads and electrolysis?

My first choice for a head gasket was the graphite type but piston to head clearance has caused me to use the thicker copper gasket. What can I do to minimize the effects of electrolysis associated with aluminum heads?

Speedway one piece front crank seal?

Anybody use Speedway's one piece front crank seal with good results? Before I completely close the engine up am having second thoughts about this seal; have used the VEO one piece on my '36 with good results. Can't remember why I got the Speedway version.

    Method for cc syringe measurement?

I have a graduated 100cc syringe; when it's full with no air bubbles the nozzle of the syringe is also full, the amount in the nozzle is about 1.75cc, is this already figured in the 100cc's marked on the cylinder? I started with 100cc's and end with 34-35 cc's left. Do I need to factor the 1.75...

    Removing exposed spark plug threads?

I've got a 1" 45 degree counter sink bit with 6 cutting edges that is leaving the chamfered area rough, so rough that I think the area could be a hot spot for detonation; do you typically have to go back and smooth out the chamfered area with a die grinder or do I have the wrong type of bit for...

    Compute compression ratio?

I've got Offy 425 heads with 70cc's of head volume on unrelieved 276 block and a installed head gasket of approx. 050" thick, compression chart I have doesn't really give me exactly what I need but I came up with 8 to 1. Anybody have an opinion as to what my compression ratio is? I once had a...

    Piston to head clearance?

My Offy heads have been milled .020" and when I set them on the block with no gasket the head lifts up when piston hits TDC; is this to be expected? The only thing preventing catastrophic failure is the head gasket? When I clay with gasket & head torqued to 50lbs. I get .040" at the piston...

    Exposed spark plug threads

Took my Offy heads to my machinist and he said he wasn't set up to machine the threads out the way Ol'Ron described in one of his posts and suggested I could do it with a die grinder; I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Big bore graphite head gasket questions

Upon removing old graphite head gasket and comparing to new graphite gasket I see that the old gasket has shrunk in diameter around piston area; is this a result to torquing aluminum heads to 60lbs.? Also, one of the water passage ways in head gasket is much smaller than the passage way in the...

    Head clearances?

Used alumna-peas to check clearances on Offy 425 heads that have been milled .020" and valve pockets cut to 450." Here's what I got .081" over the intake valve, .085" over piston center and only .040" clearance on piston's edge. With only .040" on piston edge there's no way I can mill the...

Extended plugs for Offy 425 heads?

I have Autolite 216 plugs in my Offy heads but they leave 2-3 threads exposed as they don't screw in far enough to cover up the threads. I have read that these exposed threads could be a potential hot spot causing pre-detonation; would extended plugs be the solution to this problem or would...
