Painted or natural cast exhaust manifold

I think I know the result, but is it more desirable to leave the exhaust in natural cast or paint with high temp paint. Not going for show points but just a good looking engine for an every day. Ed

    OT garage door lube

Off Topic but what do you use to lube the springs on an overhead door. My five panel door is getting hard to lift and the springs need lube I'm sure. Ed

    thrust clearance

I cannot find the thrust clearance in my red book. I was measuring the flywheel runout and found if I turn the engine clockwise (from the rear) I get a different reading from turning it CCW. So I assume this difference would be the thrust clearance without taking the engine apart and measuring...

6 volt LED light bulbs for dash

Is there a small LED bulb made to replace the dash light in a 29. The standard bulb gets hot and makes the shield too hot to turn on or off. Ed

    Canadian hardware?

Is there any source for Canadian built Model A hardware. Do not care if it is nickel plated or not, just want it to look right. I have been using Phillips to replace the missing screws but not a good match. Ed

    Mice

Might be off topic, but I have mice. I baited two Victor traps with peanut butter and this morning all of the peanut butter was gone but no traps were tripped. Anyone have a better bait. I have had good luck with the electronic traps but all of them are in storage. Maybe tonight... Ed

    Model A metal kits

Found some of the Model A kits from my mis-spent youth. Not any complete but there are some other parts and pieces that have disappeared over the years. A roadster pickup body, fenders, and frame, interior pieces, etc... Ed

    2-speed pics

I was looking at 2-speeds pics in an earlier post about rear main babbit and noticed their appears to be a crack running from the bottom of the cylinder wall all of the way to the cam bearing bore. Or is it just my 80 year old eyesight. Ed

    Haven't been on here

I haven't been on here since last Friday. I was in the hands of the Lord. I had a pulmonary embolism in my left lung and one in both legs. After lots of blood thinners and hospital care, I am back home. I was so out of breath last Friday I knew I was not going to make it, but after an e-mail to...

    throwout bearing carrier, crack?

I was cleaning the throwout bearing carrier and found this, possible a crack or just casting flaw. It is the same on both sides. Does not appear to go through to the outside. Ed

    engine color

This is the engine color on my 29 Canadian built Model A. there are traces of this color on the block under the years of grease. Possible the Canadian built cars had different color engines? The engine has been re-built sometime in the past, years ago.

    Do not use ungraded bolts

I was installing my new pressure plate and torqueing to the recommended 20 psi when the head snapped off one of the ungraded bolts. Luckily I was able to retrieve the stump without having to drill it out. On a previous post I mentioned the bolts were ungraded and got replies that it made no...

    flywheel wire tied?

Was getting to install my clutch pressure plate and noticed the flywheel bolts are not wired. Is this necessary and if so what kind of wire is used? Aircraft certified? Ed

    New Clutch - Balanced?

Bought a new pressure plate from a well known supplier but there are no witness marks that it was balanced. The old one had marks that matched the flywheel markings. Does the new one need to be balanced with the flywheel? Or just adjust it and go. Ed

    bad clutch?

I pulled my engine to check the clutch because I had to nearly push the pedal through the floor to get it to release. Upon checking I think a new clutch had been installed. The disk looks like it is brand new, so at some time in the past a new disk had been installed. I don't think the person...

    clutch adjustment

Probably this has been hashed over many times but I will add my two cents. I pulled my engine to check the clutch because I had to nearly push the pedal through the floor to get it to release. Upon checking, I don't think the last person knew how to adjust the fingers because they were not the...

Model A as Henry Built It

My wife got this for me off of Amazon for my birthday. I'll be 80 on Sept 8. Interesting inside cover is a name handwritten "Don King" 1988. Inside front cover has written notes about different model a's that someone had sold or done work on. Also has a sheet from Harry's Early Ford Parts, Rogue...
