    Generator wiring

I have a Model A truck that is a static display. The motor does run and is wired for just the ignition. Now I want to wire the generator also in the simplest way possible. All other wiring such as lights is not needed. I have the original type short generator with a new diode type cut out. I...

    Timing question

I put in a new distributor and gear assy and timed my A but I have noticed on cold days or if battery is a little low as I try to start it will fire and try to kick motor back even if I am at full retard. I know this can damage starter. Would this mean that I am a little to far advanced on my...

Cannot get oil pump gear out ?

I have tried to get gear out but no luck. I lift it up into the hole above going to the distributor as far as I can go but the tang at bottom still is in lower block hole about a 1/16". It does not come apart first does it ? Tried prying up more and pulling bottom tang on through but no luck...

What am I doing wrong ? I have pulled the distributor. the lower shaft and side cover but cannot get the drive gear to come out. I can lift it up easily but when I get it as high as I can the tang on the bottom that goes to the oil pump will not come high enough to take out assy ? Thanks Joe B

Got it all the way in and new one will not turn while engine does. With lower rod in and distributor out I put my...

    Distributor will not rotate ?

Model A would not start. I replaced points because they did look bad. Still will not start. Now I realize that my distributor is not rotating when engine does. I last ran it a month ago and all was fine. What would it likely be? Thanks Joe B.

    Pretty close on timing

Well I have 2 pretty elementary questions. Car is running ok after ignition tune up and new timing. I have found that it runs best when lever is fully retarded and not so well at all when fully advanced. Would this mean I need to retard timing just a little bit more ? Secondly I have heard this...

    Running rough

Well I have my A running again. But not very well. I had an issue with ignition I replaced plugs, coil, coil wire, rebuilt distributor etc and it started right up. Now it runs but not real well missing and sputtering some and a little backfire. I am going to recheck my timing again first. I also...

    Will not start

Well having a tough time starting 29 A. Tried it this morning for first time in a while and ran for about 5 seconds then nothing. I have to own up to something I used a 12 volt charger because it was cold. Now it seems I have no spark at spark plugs unless I am not grounding them correctly. How...

    Replacing Points goofed a little

As I was replacing points old style points and distributor I removed the small round thumbscrew like screw holding points on. I think I should have just snapped points off of the screw. Now I try to screw it back and it will not catch anything underneath. What do I do now. Thanks Joe B

It was no point gap !!

Well after not starting for about a month and missing our town's Christmas Parade I finally figured out why. No point gap. I only spent a couple hours total but finally found it. Sometimes I guess we find out the hard way. Got new plugs and coil also but that was not it. What threw me off was...

    Leaking out intake hole

I just purchased a rebuilt Zenith Carb and I put it on my Model A. When I opened the fuel valve at first it did not leak. Then the second time I opened the fuel cutoff valve(in line of fuel line) it started leaking out the air intake opening pretty bad. After cutting off line I tapped on the...

    No bell housing cover plate

After pulling the pan on my 29 Model A I realize someone before me did not put the cover plate at front of the transmission housing. What problems could this cause. Could it have anything to do with my rear engine oil leak? Thanks Joe Bohannon.

    Priming Oil Pump

I have pulled my pan but not the oil pump. The screen was very clean. Is it necessary to pull the distributor to put oil to the pump. I hate to lose my timing. Thanks Joe B.

    First time pulling pan

Just pulled the pan for the first time and so far just looking. The main reason I pulled pan was a rear engine oil leak. My tube was in ( a little loose). I notice my front and middle main bolts are square head with no castellations for cotter pins. My rear main has castellation but no cotter...

    Pulling oil pan

For the first time I am pulling model a oil pan. I have a bad rear seal leak and think my bearings may be worn out. I am asking about the oil pump. Can I pull pan without the pump dropping. If so I plan to just see what problems I have and go from there. Any advice ?

    Model A Lower end

For the first time I am going to pull the pan on my 28 Model A and see what condition the bottom end is in. I am doing this for 2 reasons. At higher engine speeds I get a terrible vibration and it feels like engine is going to come apart. Also I have a bad rear seal leak. My compression is ok...
