    Bob Shellady

I ran across a T shirt given me by our old friend Bob Shellady (Supereal). I treasured it, never wore it. What the hell, why not wear it and enjoy it? I will, at the next club meeting! Bob's son Mike still runs MAS Automotive & Machining in Iowa City, but no longer offers the T shirt. (A 2020...

Is this the end of Swap Meets?

As Rico said, is this the end? The East Bay Alameda Ferry Point Swap, previously in Hayward, previously in Pleasanton, previously back in the day at Sears Southland in Oakland in the 60's... it looks like we're done for good now. City of Alameda put the screws to us and we're outta there with no...

    ‘37 -‘39 steering box wanna-be

‘37 -‘39 steering box wanna-be A friend has a ‘38 steering box to install in his ‘36, but has only the ‘36 mounting bracket that must be drilled, or is it his frame to be drilled? Can anyone provide exact locations for the mounting holes? I know it can be done hit and miss, but that’s not going...

    1954 Mercury Sun Valley

Has anyone ever seen a fake Sun Valley? My parents had one back in 1956, looked like the real McCoy, but the green roof half was painted on. It was a hardtop, had the trim strip across the roof separating the two halves, but I don't remember the name emblem. It was almost new, beautiful car, had...

    Who do you trust?

Do you trust the guy that has a product to sell, or do you trust the guy that bought that product and tells you of his experience with it? If this sounds like a knock on the suppliers we depend on for our Ford parts, you're wrong. This knock is on the Newbies who run straight to the suppliers...

A note regarding research on the FordBarn... Or, Off-Topic as you wish.

Research on the Barn, and as a matter of fact, anywhere else, is kinda like riding a bike... or is it? I for one can attest that the older I get, the more I forget things. No, I didn't forget how to ride a bike, it's just beyond my physical ability now. Doing research here is easy peasy, ...for...

Helpful tips for new owners and other Newbies

Many of us have tips to share, sometimes an answer to a question that has been previously answered incorrectly, but we don't want to argue or offend. I hope this thread can offer tips that can be shared without going down a rathole of conflicting advice. I see this as general rule of thumb...

off topic (cars in general) trivia

Automobile trivia questions.... I'll start: What American automobile sported a banjo steering wheel in 1937, and has employed tail lights of basically the same similar shape ever since? (trick question) EDIT major clue: Make that tail lights and/or housings.

    DMV renewal scam

Email renewal notice. Official looking with all the bells and whistles. Doesn’t address me by name or which car’s license is expiring or when. Doesn’t have any info it should have, but yes, sure enough, it has that button to click on to get more info. There you go, mister, in the garbage with you.

Off topic but related to ALL topic!

Fordbarn is not accessible from Google Chrome as of last nite. This is not just me, it’s happening on both coasts, 3000 miles apart. Confirmed so far, apple ios 18 is not affected, and Safari is also good to go. Only Google Chrome, and only Fordbarn. Hope someone can help!

Ardun Duece TCI Brookville @ BaT

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1932-ford-roadster-234/ Impressive car, but aside from that, without a Ford frame, not even a Ford body, (has a 1939 transmission) how can this be registered with a 1932 Ford serial number? *18 135519*. It says "clean title". Titled in Louisiana, can it be a...

Kinda off topic, but I got my bragging rights

Now that my beloved '38 Ford Conv Cpe has a new Owner... Sob, sob... I got a hitch in my gittup now, but can still hobble around without assistance, so I changed oil & filter on my Grocery Getter truck today, just as if it were my Ford. You love your wheels, so ya know it's just one of them fun...

    $5 a day

On this day 101 years ago, Henry Ford’s 5 Dollar day went into effect. Most people think all his workers got that raise, but no, it was not to give workers more money, it was about Ford’s desire to control lives and gain publicity. He had a team of inspectors invade households to investigate...

Changing of the Guard. A new breed of car nuts.

It’s been a long time coming, but the changing of the guard is almost complete now. I remember back when I was a newbie, there were so many Ford experts everywhere you turned, you just couldn’t go too far off track in keeping your old Ford running, almost original, with just a couple of personal...

Off topic. Remember TV show Columbo?

Sorry, at my age TV occupies much of my time. I always enjoyed watching Columbo, never got tired of his low-brow character outsmarting high society criminals. Well, he’s back. Only now he’s a she and she goes by the name Elsbeth, who’s mode of transportation is a NY tour bus rather than...

    What have we got here?

I get to plug my favorite English Telly show again... The British series "All Creatures Great And Small" on PBS is set in the Yorkshire Dales circa 1940, my ancestral home and year of my birth! My question: Is this called a Lorry, and does it have an English V8-60? Sorry for the poor quality...

    Hijacking a thread

I know that lots of guys are reluctant to hijack a thread, but I feel differently and do it often. Think of it as like a round table conversation that evolves as it goes on, touching on many things of interest, while also satisfying the original subject matter. I think this is one reason the...

    Emergency tip for highway breakdown

Yesterday I had a flat tire on the interstate. So I eased my car over to the shoulder of the road, carefully got out of the car and opened the trunk. I took out two cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of my car facing oncoming traffic. They look so life like you wouldn't...
