    40 door lock

The driver’s door on my ‘40 convertible won’t lock. When I pull the inside door handle up, it doesn’t lock. I can still open it from the outside, even though the inside handle is in the up position. Your thoughts? Thanks, Sid

    40 convertible seat

I need to take the front seat out of my 40 convertible coupe. From underneath the car, I can see where the bolts come through the floorboard and into cage nuts. I can get a wrench on the head of the bolt at the front of the track, but not the back bolt. I can just barely see the back bolt with a...

    ‘40 lower grill pan

‘40 lower grill pan My ‘40 convertible was missing this part #01A-8434. Now that I have it, I see that it doesn’t cover the entire area between the grill and the radiator. Does anything else go there? There are 2 holes in the trailing edge of this piece. What attaches there? Thanks, Sid

    ‘40 radiator Air deflector

‘40 radiator Air deflector My’40 convertible is missing this part. Thankfully, it’s reproduced, so I can order one. My question is, what type of fasteners were used to attach it to the base of the grill? Screws or bolts? Thanks, Sid

    40 radiator

My ‘40 convertible has a radiator with a radiator cap in the center of the top, and it doesn’t have two separate cores (one for each side of the engine). It does have a hole for the crank to pass through. Were any forty Fords equipped with such a radiator originally? Sid

    40 radiator

My ‘40 convertible has a large radiator cap, which I assume is correct. My problem with it is that my pressure checker does not have an adapter to fit the neck. Does someone make the adapter? Sid

    Wire wheel cleaner

Is there a spray on product that I could use on my ‘32 wire wheels that would not hurt the paint? For years I’ve successfully cleaned them with soap and water and a wire wheel brush, but now that is more work than this old man can handle. Bending over is not too bad, but getting back up is the...

    1940 gravel shield

My ‘40 convertible is in the restoration shop for a few minor things, and a question has come up. My gravel shield is painted black, and I think that is correct, since it was an accessory. The shop thinks it should be body color (maroon). Who is correct? Thanks, Sid

    8BA piston

I have a 94 year old friend who’s 1950 convertible has a piston with a hole in the top of it. He’d like to be able to replace just that one piston with the engine still in the car. He has been unable to find just one piston. The vendors he has talked to offer to sell him 8 pistons and 8 sets of...

    ‘40 convertible top kit

‘40 convertible top kit After searching for the last few months I finally found an upholsterer to install the top kit I bought from Cartouche for my ‘40 convertible coupe. I checked with him today, and he had found that the rear window flap snaps in place differently on the new top. It uses...

    ‘40 radio

‘40 radio I’ve only had my for 40 convertible for about six months, so I’m still sorting it out. It has an original appearing radio, and until a couple weeks ago I couldn’t make it work. It kept blowing fuses. I realized early on that the 6 volt battery was in backwards. Whoever replaced the...

    ‘40 right mirror

‘40 right mirror I’m not able to see anything out of the right outside mirror on my ‘40 convertible. It mounts on the cowl in front of the upper door hinge. It looks nice, but is totally worthless. I’m considering buying a hinge mirror (part #48-18403) for that side. I guess several of you are...

    40 glove box lock

I don’t have a key that fits the glove box in my’40. I removed the lock and took it to a locksmith who advised he could make a key to fit the lock, but could not key the lock to one of the existing keys. I would like to be able to do this, because the car already has 3 keys- one for the...

    40 trunk lid

My ‘40 convertible’s trunk lid has three bolts that stick out from the latch handle into the trunk area. These bolts can severely scratch luggage. The location of the spare tire reduces the amount of floor space, making the chances of luggage damage greater. Has someone already solved this...

    1940 dual exhaust

I took my ‘40 convertible to a muffler shop to have dual exhaust installed. They said it could not be done, because they could not get a pipe through the driver’s side of the frame. They said clutch, transmission, and steering linkage were in the way. Has someone solved this problem already? If...

    Spline problem

When I built my ‘32 phaeton 30 years ago I found a good ‘36 rear end assembly, had the driveshaft and torque tube shortened and installed it on my ‘32. Recently I decided I wanted a highway gear, so I bought a 3.25 ring gear and pinion. When installing it we noticed the new pinion had 6 splines...
