    LED lights on collector cars

I am wondering are these working ok with stock electrical systems of both 6 and 12 volts and not causing havoc? As some of you might know the federal government is banning the sales of both incandescent and halogen lights after August 1st. I have not found any exemptions to automotive...

    1953 Ford dash question

Were these originally painted to match to outside color of the car? Most I've seen thru the years are gray or black. I ask as I'm interested in this '53 that's not too far from me. The dash is painted red like the car, otherwise it's 100% stock. I am generally a 90% purist.

Low mileage original--is gas additive needed?

Close by neighbor bought a 1966 T-Bird with only 28,000 miles on it (still has the new car smell!) so therefore it does not have hardened valve seats. Does he need to put lead or some form of additive in the gas??? At least non-ethanol gas is plentiful in our area so that's not a problem.

is it ok to run diluted antifreeze?

Flatties naturally run hotter than the average engine. On my modern every day driver I've been using the 50/50 with no problems except a water pump went south. I've been reading up on the debates of the subject and no one totally agrees on it.

    1980 won't start, tried everything

I know this forum is for mostly older vehicles but I'm sure some of you have stuff from the Duraspark era. Anyways I did some preventive maintenance on this since the radiator was bad, so I replaced the entire cooling system components as well as the fuel pump, alternator and regulator. After...

    Another C4/FMX question

I have a '67 Galaxie. Did they change the rear splines during the late 60s or 70s??? I know they changed the front spline count on the early ones I think from 24 to 26 and the older torque converters are hard to find whereas the 26s can be bought new. The car will be in someone's garage and I...

    EarlyC4/ later C4 & FMX questions

How do I tell if I have a C4 or an FMX? I have a 1967 Galaxie w/289. Can I tell by jacking up the car and looking. Is there a difference between the early C4 & the later (1970s era) ones? I know the most common spline is 26. What about length? Also I prefer to change out the torque...

    early 289/late 289 question

It is my understanding that the early ones have a different rear bolt pattern than the later ones, is that right? Just bought a '67 Galaxie with a 289. Although it still has punch, it smokes. I have a line on a 1966 289 that is completely rebuilt from an abandoned Mustang project that the...

Modern tire size for 1952-54 Mercury

For a '54 Ford I once had, I used P215 75R 15s (some say use 205s but they look too small) I hear that Mercs should have one size bigger so maybe 225 75R 15s?

    74 F250-- 235 85R 16s or 245 75R 16s ???

Which size would be the best, guys? The old 16.5's are long gone and it now has stock steel 16s on it. The present 235 85R 16s which are getting worn are showing me to be doing 5 mph less (70 when I'm actually doing 65) If I go to the smaller tire, how much more rpms will I be doing?? At...

    1949 steering wheel question

Got a chance to pick up a cheap '49 Tudor project with a solid body. The car has a 4 spoke steering wheel on it. I thought the only ones that had those were the 1950 Crestliners. Or were they an option on the 49s?

    Vacuum advance question

Bought a '74 F-250 supercab and it runs great. Later when I popped the hood I noticed there was no rubber hose connected to the distributor vacuum advance. yet it runs great. I thought with it missing it wouldn't run at all. No it is not an Edelbrock or any aftermarket set-up (dealbreaker if...

    Brake failures anyone?

I have started to hear of several cases of hearing about brake failures and in those cases they had China made master cylinders or wheel cylinders on the cars. This is of grave concern to me. Its one thing to have junk repro body parts on the car but brakes hydraulic brake parts are something...

SCAM ALERT--didnt get my F250 wheels

I'm sorry to report but it has spread to Fordbarn. Perhaps I'm not the only one, but only the latest. I thought a person had to have a password to answer want ads on here? On November 25th, I placed a want ad for 1966 & earlier F250 wheels (innies) I got an almost immediate response from...

    Frozen hood pull cables

What is the best way to unstick these? I have two '59 Edsels and this cable is a one-year-only part & is not reproduced. Regular Ford hoods opened from the rear but Edsels opened from the front. Anyone try maybe putting them in a bucket of kerosene and see if that would work?

The USA & Cuba---& old cars

As some of you probably know, there are scores of American cars and trucks from the 1940s, 50s & 60s still in daily use down there. Until now getting parts has probably been next to impossible unless they can be smuggled in. Many owners probably don't know that there are sellers and vendors up...

    WTB: 66 & earlier F250 wheels

I'm looking for 3 original 16 inch "innies". Sorry no split rims , no one does them here. The one I have has a 6 inch tire width & the total width is 7 inches. They also made a 17.5 but tires cost an arm & a leg so I'll stick with 16's. Surface rust ok, I will have them powdercoated but no...

    361 Edsel engine question

Is the 361 Edsel engine the same as the 332 or 352 that was produced in 1959? I am now the proud owner of a 1959 Edsel Villager wagon. It looks so good next to my 66,72 & 73 trucks. The car has no motor but does have a 3 on the tree. I was expecting it to have a 292 Y block until I did...

    Storing a rebuilt engine

I am getting ready to have a '66 352 engine gone thru as it is a good candidate. Now I have found a '65 F250 that is in far better shape than my '66 F1 and it doesn't need an engine right now. Still I'm thinking while I have the money to go ahead and have it rebuilt (should only need the...
