    Neighbor’s 54 F100 burnt / Salvage Sale ?s

Neighbor’s 54 F100 burnt / Salvage Sale ?s Hello Fellow Barn Members, It’s been a few years but I’m still loving my 55 F100 up in Maine with some upgrades you all coached me through. While down in Florida this winter I saw an awful incident. An older gentleman, Ford enthusiast, finally had his...

Looking for historical info ref F-100 step bumper

I'm just beginning to investigate a step bumper option for F-100s and not finding much yet. I'm interested in a metal diamond plate rear step bumper that wraps around the bottom of the rear fenders and sort of fades flush into the body. I'm wondering if there was a subcontractor company that...

Finished side mount spare project / photo

If anyone does this conversion the best tip I learned is to measure two and a half inches back from the bed stake pocket to the edge of the angled backer plate. Also use a piece of angle iron on the inside of the bed at floor level to take up some of that down pressure and prevent accidental...

Figured out the side mount for F100 spare

It wasn't easy but I got the rack mounted. I now understand the obvious reason why the legs slant to the cab. Felt stupid for not seeing that earlier. It is difficult holding up the wheel on the rack and then guessing where to mark on the opposite side of the bed wall. I wrestled with the rig...

Advice needed ref installing spare tire rack

Hello fellow fordbarners, I've been away for a while. Finally got my fender done and painted with the side mount indent. I have the mount kit all painted and some stainless bolts purchased. I am open to any suggestions as to properly installing the mount rack. Does anyone have any...

New metal doors from Obsolete Ford???

I've been looking for a set of doors for a while now. I can't find anything in the North East and shipping is tough to deal with on the few private ads I've seen out in Cal. Obsolete Ford had these listed at 560.00 apiece and they are now asking 400.00 apiece. Has anyone out there bought a...

    Need 53-55 F-100 Doors

I really screwed up. I never checked the weep holes at the bottom of my doors. I bought the truck 15 years ago right after it was repainted and I guess the previous owner didn't re-drill or clean them either. I washed this truck every weekend during summers and now the bottom of the doors are...

    Building up leaf springs

I took the front leaf springs out today. I ended up snapping off a couple of the u-bolts. After I had the old springs out and compared them to the replacement springs, I noticed the arc was about the same, but the old springs had 8 layers and the new had only 7. I'm thinking of getting new...

    55 Pickup front springs question

After we finished up the engine swap I noticed I was feeling bumps in the road more than previously. A closer look at the leaf springs revealed they were flattened out and the right side is actually bending over into the negative. Here's my question: Did the 55 pickups w/ the 223 6 cyl come off...

Some pics of the new 292 installed

Sorry, some photos are supposed to be here.... The new 292 in place and a couple other photos taken today. The Lucas treatment seems to have quieted down the power steering. Thanks- John

Any suggestions to quiet power steering

We finished up the new 292 Y-block install and she runs perfect. I've been driving around all day and evening and just enjoying the heck out of it. I have one minor complaint. The Toyota power steering pump transmits a low level hissing or rubbing sound up the steering post. It sounds like a...

    Adjustable door hinges.. Any good?

I just saw some adjustable door hinges listed in a Mid Fifties catalog. Any one ever used these? 85.00 bucks apiece, but maybe worth it if they work. I've been fooling with these doors for years and can never get them just right. I've alway thought I would probably have to bend them and break...

Need body guy good w/ truck doors

Today as I was sliding out from under my truck on a creeper, I noticed several bubbles in the paint along the bottom of the door. A quick check revealed the same on the other side. I've owned the truck for 13 years and I think the previous owner may have used skins on the lower doors and then...

Found ECZ-G Heads - Now what carb?

Well my old friend Ralph came through again. A few years ago he showed me a private junk yard in a coastal town in Maine and we found ram horn manifolds for my 292 Y-block. Yesterday we were visiting a friend's garage and got talking about an old engine that has been passed around between...

    Timing Chain questions

After delays due to the cold weather and garage furnace trouble, my friend Ralph and I are finally getting to work on my Y-block swap. Ralph wanted to put a new timing chain on the 1962 292 Y-block that is going to be dropped into my truck. We got into it yesterday and I'm learning a lot. I was...

Having trouble w/ replies timing out

I freely admit I have much to learn about old Fords and even more to learn about computers. If I take more than a minute or two to think about a reply I'm typing, I get logged off and lose what I'm trying to submit. Is any one else having this trouble and how do I correct this? - John

Anyone ever added a side spare on F-100?

I've been thinking about this for a while. Maybe just looking for a winter project. I was kind of waiting for a scratch or dent in the left rear fender so I wouldn't feel bad about replacing or cutting into a perfect fender, but maybe it's time. I had to stop carrying the spare up under the bed...

    Oil Pressure greatly improved-Thanks

I changed the oil using 20-50 and added a qt of Lucas Engine Treatment. I was at 55 pounds at start up and after warm up it read 28 pds. I drove it on the highway for about 30 minutes and it stayed at 28. As I was idling into my garage it dropped to about 22. I can live with that. Thanks...

Any one know the oil cap. in a 1962 292?

I wasn't going to bother with an oil change since I'm swapping motors this winter, but I'm going to do it right and see how it affects the oil pressure. The dipstick in this motor has various lines on it made by others and I just don't trust that it is original. I figured the capacity once...
