Any suggestions to quiet power steering

We finished up the new 292 Y-block install and she runs perfect. I've been driving around all day and evening and just enjoying the heck out of it. I have one minor complaint. The Toyota power steering pump transmits a low level hissing or rubbing sound up the steering post. It sounds like a water hose left on up behind the dash. The connection is metal to metal and not a rag joint. I had previously used a Toyota steering box without the pump and it was pretty good. Any suggestions to quiet this down. I guess I could just turn up the radio, but I'd like to fix it better than that. - John

I would look in to a Lucas product to quiet a transmission. I have seen that work on a five speed.

i dont know if the toyota pump has a pressure regulating valve in it, but it sounds like yours is set to high, forcing the oil thru a small orvice, might help if you could lower the pressure at the regulator, have had thst problem when using chevy pumps on ford rack and pinions, chevy pump puts out to much pressure for the ford and makes the steering squirley , and when you cut down the flow it makes a hissing sound

Thanks Guys. I will pick up some Lucas tomorrow and also try to reduce the pressure. I'll try to snap some pictures of the new engine. She is all painted up and a very pretty Y-block. - Regards, John
