What kind of finish is on the power steering pump reservoir for a 53 Mercury?

With the ignition off, the needle sets at H, which it’s supposed to do. After startup the needle sits just above half and within five minutes goes up way past the H. I’ve already replaced both sending units to no avail. Any advice is appreciated.

My steering wheel turns two turns to the right and only one and a half to the left. Can I just drop the steering arm and then turn the wheel equal directions to center it and reinstall the arm?

My car is missing the temperature control valve, it’s been bypassed with a lever type shut off valve. I bought a valve off EBay with the part number FAB-18502-B which is supposed to be correct for 52-53. The ports on the valve are way too small for the heater hoses. I also don’t see the two...

I have the kit from POL. I just found out my Monterey has dropped spindles. Has anyone had issue with the brake hoses being too short to route behind the king pin due to the dropped spindle support? I watched a YouTube video of the kit being installed on a 53 Ford and he had to grind the area...
