    Fender welting

Is there fender welting between the running board apron and the front fender on a 30 coupe? The running boards are original (one piece apron/running boards). I don't remember seeing anything about this in the judging standards.

Seal Drip Rail Gutters on 30 Coupe

The pictures are of the drip rails on my 30 coupe. They are welded on and I am not going to remove them. I can straighten the gutter and push it back but there will still be a gap. What should I use to seal the gaps between the roof and the gutters (shown In the pictures)?

    Gas Gauge Inner Nut

The picture is of the gas gauge from my early 30 coupe. Notice the inner nut. The standard tools I have do not fit. They fit a 5/8 opening. Mine has a 21/32 opening for the tool. The lens in the middle is smaller and does not appear to have a face plate behind it. I looked in the judging...

What is the best carburetor for the Model A

I have always had a Zenith carburetor on my 30 coupe. I know there were several other makers like Tillotson, Schebler, Simmons and others. Has there been any testing to see which performs the best? I know the term ‘best’ is subjective. What experiences have any of you had with the non-Zenith...

Door Handle Locking Cylinder for 30-31 Coupe

What I want to know is can the cylinder cover be removed and replaced without destroying the cover? I remember read that the key number is on the cylinder top or side, and I think it would be visible if the cover was removed. No number on the shaft. I understand that the lock cylinder on the...

    Spark Plug Autolite 3076

The May/June copy of the 'Restorer' has an article on 'Model A Ford Spark Plugs.' One of the plugs reviewed is the Autolite 3076 plug for use with high compression heads. I was interested in these plugs, went to Amazon and searched for "spark plug autolite 3076." I found what appears to be a...

    Model A Combination Tire Tool?

I was on eBay and saw several of the same type of tool listed as a combination tire tool. Some have a number of 934502 or AF 310 in the casting. I have never physically seen this tool, so I do not know how big is. I could not find the auction number, so I borrowed the picture for description...

    Outside Mirror

I just finished the metal work on my 30 coupe doors (including welding all the added holes closed). What is the best way to mount an outside mirror: Hinge, Clamp-on, or Screw-on? Do you like a outside mirror on both doors?

    1935 16 inch 40 Spoke Wheel Help

Today I was reading a post about 16 inch tires, and in that post was information on 16 inch wheels. I remembered that Ford wheels had 32 spokes, Motor had 36 spokes and Kelsey Hayes had 40 spokes, and I have two 1935 40 spoke 5 x 5.5 wheels listed on eBay. After reading the post, I realized that...

    1935 16 inch 40 spoke wheel help

Hi, I usually hangout on the Model A forum, but today I was reading a post about 16 inch wheels. I remembered that Ford wheels had 32 spokes, Motor had 36 spokes and Kelsey Hayes had 40 spokes, and I have two 1935 40 spoke 5 x 5.5 wheels listed on eBay. After reading the post, I realized that my...

Square Nuts and Reeded Edge Lock Washers

Is there as source for square nuts and reeded edge lock washers? By reeded edge, I mean a series of grooved lines that encircle the perimeter of the washer (see picture). I remember that someone was making original style fasteners for the Model A, and I probably saved the information but can't...

    Remove inner panel

I am trying to remove the inner panel from a rumble trunk of a 30 coupe to repair some rust through on the rumble set riser (see picture). I can get behind all the slotted screws except the six on the top of the panel (see picture). Are d-nuts used behind these six screws? If not how do you...

15/16 Rear Axle Nut Thread Pitch

I've been wondering around the garage, stirring up dust and pissing off spiders, looking for an axle. Does anyone know the thread pitch on the 15/16 rear axle nut?

Help with Soldering Caps on the Oil Return Pipe

I had a small oil leak coming from around each end of the oil return pipe. The bottom of the pipe was leaking from the bolt area, and I could not tell where the oil was leaking from at the top of the pipe. I decided to remove the pipe and replace the seals and copper washers. I cleaned the pipe...

    Running again after 30 years

For the last few years I have been restoring my 30 coupe. It has been following me around for over forty years. I rebuilt the engine over 30 years ago in my college auto shop class (see picture of engine). It has less than 100 miles on it, and had not run for 25 years. I recently rebuilt the...

    1930 Generator Field Coils

The pictures are of, what I believe to be, a 1930 generator that I am rebuilding. My question involves the field coils. I presume that the field coils were originally wrapped. What should I use to re-wrap them? As you can see there was no wrapping present at disassembly. Some carbon dust did...

    Restore Steering Wheel

The picture is of the steering wheel from my 1930 coupe. The wheel has been washed with Simple Green, and has several hairline cracks. What should I use to clean, shine and preserve the wheel. Is there a common way to restore the wheel?

    Steering assembly question

The picture is of a new two tooth steering worm gear pressed on the steering shaft of my 1930 coupe. The end of the shaft and the worm gear should be flat. I have pressed the gear on to within 1/64th of an inch, I am afraid of damaging the shaft if I press the gear any harder. Will that do...
