I have the same problem with my 36 1/2 ton. New motor/radiator with only a few miles on them. However, the vehicle has only been run a few times since the overhaul/new radiator 10 years ago. I am going to try the vinegar method. I also have the Skip Haney water pumps.

I mounted a 37 steering box and 40 frame bracket on my 1936 pickup. However, the angle of the steering tube going into the cab is such that it interferes with the fit of the toe board. It appears to me that the steering box needs to mounted about an inch higher so the toe board can fit normally...
