Is there someone out there that would know if there is a difference between waterwetter & purple ice other than the price ? Any info would be appreciated as I just put Skip's pumps on my 34. Thank you.
Gary.

if you havent bored an excessive amount, .125 or more, your block and heads arent cracked, engine in good shape, a good radiator and good water pumps, i see your running skips, you dont that stuff, if you do you have a serious emgine problem, find out what it is and fix it

I agree with you 100%. If the block was properly boiled out upon rebuilding, neither product will offer any 'help'. I have rebuilt numerous flatheads and have used both products on occasion only to find no difference in temp readings.

you dont that stuff,

I tend to agree with both - you shouldn't really need it. However, the way I figure it, adding it won't hurt anything and, for the price, it's probably worth putting in just in case it helps in some way. I do. I know of no difference between the two so might as well buy the cheaper one if you're going to even mess with it at all.

I have Purple Ice in mine, and it sits on about 170. I might have to either ditch the PI or fit stats to lift the temp up another 10-15 degrees.

I used it when i put in Skips rebuilt pumps. It's in his coolant recomendation. It might have helped a bit but it was not a major contributor for cooling. It definately can't hurt to use the stuff. Three things are needed for decent cooling. Water flow, Air flow and correct timing.

I tried Water Wetter on my blown 296" flathead. I don,t have any overheat problems but I didn,t notice any change in temp on either my left or right temp gauge..

marty howsthe car coming on trev

Great. Just doing some upholstery at the moment, and just had it pinstriped. Tried pinstriping it myself, but I'm getting too shaky in my old age, so got a pro to do it. A few more little jobs to do before cert, and I'll have to sort my sloppy diff too.

I stopped useing additives years ago...a waste of money !
I flush around every year or so with bicarbonate of soda....(full Packet)
Flush after running for around 50 mile's, longer if badly blocked..Then i replace it with distilled water only...........

Actually, Four thing's. Those three and Skip's pumps:D I like the watter wetter.

I know Purple Ice works because I saw it in action. There are spots in the head that can be seem with a laser thermometer and I suspect others that you can't see. A lot of diesel pick ups have or had the problem that you can find on Ford diesel forums. There are spots in the engine that get bubbles like you see in a glass tea kettle. These bubbles have oxygen in them and eat pin holes in the cylinders. In the old Fords they are located in the center and rear of the heads in most of the engines I looked at. You find higher temperatures in these areas. I first one I saw had high temperatures in those areas that went up in the 225 range. This was on 6 or 8 occassions. I added 2 bottles of Purple Ice and in 10 or so minutes the temperature was going up and when it got to 217 I thought this was waste of money then it sat at 117 for about 10 minutes and starting slowly comming down to 207 and that's were it stayed. I wasn't satisfied with 207. I had built a water pump test machine a few years before to try to make better impellers but never got much of an improvement and got discouraged. I decided to try a differant approach and finialy got one that showed a big improvement. This was a 33 phaeton and I put the new impeller in the right pump. The left and right cooling of these engines are not connected in the engine, the water only mixes in the radiator. That's why I always tell people to check water temperatures on the water pumps of 32 to 36 engines and the hose outlet in the center of the 37 to 48 engines and on the goose necks of 49 to 53s. After installing the right pump on the 33 the temperature on that side dropped to 185 and the left side remained at 207. The pumps on the 32 to 36 engines can be swapped. I swapped pumps and the left side droppped to 185 and the right side back up to 207. This was the start of Skips pumps. My purpose was to fix the old Fords I wanted to drive without problems. Skip worked for me and I gave him the pump deal to do as a side job for himself. I only know that Purple Ice works because that's the only one we used. Other brands may work just as good but I can't confirm it. G.M.

39portlander, Yup, the Skips pumps take care of #1. Are you going to join in on the "Downeast Barner Bash"?

Both are nothing but snake oil. Maybe different kinds, but still snake oil IMHO. But, you know what they say about opinions and axx holes, everybody has one.
