here is a thread that may help you with the orientation of the choke rod//gav....

The sediment bowl mounted to the firewall is a stock item. Depending on the time of build it is either a cast iron bowl with a bottom drain, or a clear glass sediment bowl with the glass held in place by a thumb nut and bail wire.
Someone sure got carried away with painting everthing on or near the firewall green. The cast iron bowl should be black.
If you have an original terminal box, it would be worth it to remove it and remove the paint from it. An original is made of hard rubber, and may have a slightly warped look to it. A repro is shiney plastic and sometimes the terminal screw heads hit the firewall and short out.
i just bought the a terminal box from brattons its looks redesigned and you wont have a problem of shorting to firewall.
i would replace that and the harness etc that was painted since its apart at that point
Tilly
And the leather washer on the gav goes on top of the spring next to the firewall.....
The leather washer I found on the inside side of the firewall. Took everything off. Put the metal ring on fitted with the leather washer on first, leather side towards carb, then spring and the slide. If I put the parts correctly together, it seems to be working OK. As in the photo, the spring was going through the metal washer on into the cab. Nothing was stopping the spring, since there was no tension on the rod, could this have caused maybe some of the dripping? Choke not closing????
Tom, the leather washer will wiggle it's way to the other side and the metal washer will work it's way back down the spring. That is what was shown in the photo. Eventually the spring goes into the cab.The leather washer fits against the firewall first, then the metal washer, then the spring, and of couse the coupling sleeve at the bottom with the flare against the spring.
None of the choke rod parts could cause dripping unless it caused the choke to partially close and cause flooding of the carb. Even choking for more than a couple compressions will cause some flooding and dripping.
I'd replace that copper fuel line too, but sounds like others have had them w/o problem so probably not a priority.
New aluminum original style fan from Snyder's or Bratton's.
I had a Tilly with an AirMaze filter on a Model A, and it fell off somewhere as you tighten the hold down bolt it 'bent' the carb throat a bit, darn thing wiggled off. Never replaced it car ran better after I lost it.
They tell me a properly built Zenith will outperform a Tilly all day long. On my own list of to-do's this winter.
I noticed the paint spray bomb on your firewall also, I'd take everything apart clean the electrical connections replace the parts that were bombed.
Not picking your car apart it's a nice Model A Ford! Enjoy!
