I just started restoreing a 31 Pick-up and am thinking about what color to paint it (a year away). I am thinking all black, body, fenders, wheels w/ blackwalls, etc: but maybe the body dark green w/ black fenders? What do you think would look best?

Interesting truck as it was sitting in an old farm shed since 1958 and a little "ratty" with age, but all there, and sound (engine froze however). Someone in its past history cut-off the rear wall of the cab and welded on the back part of a sedan along with a welded-in steel roof. They did a good job and it looks nice with the rounded back corners of a sedan. Although it will never be a purist original, for the $800. bucks I paid for it, I'll have a lot of fun and it will draw curious attention or comments at local small car shows.

I like the dark green body idea. Remember the headlight buckets, taillight buckets and radiator shell should be black. There were 38 colors for the '31 commercial available.

Dark green was probably the most common color on trucks, but they had more paint options from the factory than passenger cars did, plus custom colors were put on them to match "company colors". It's your truck, paint it whatever color you want.

$800 sounds like you did good!
I agree with Charlie that dark green and black always looks good. Are you sure this didn't start life as a sedan, then get cut into a pickup? I've seen a few done that way. Either way, it'll make a great ride.

You can never go wrong with black , and since your body is altered I would go all black with a lot of chrome .

Good point Tom and due to the radius above the doors, you may be correct. I'll have to study this possibility closer. But it sure looks nice if the job is done well like this one has been.

I think its a cut-down sedan. But,the price is right! I would paint the cab & box a tan color, unless you are very skilled at body work.I dont know if there will be any more leg room than the std cab as the box still has to be in the same position on the frame.I had a 31 CCPU and it was a tighter fit for me compared to my 30 coupe & Im 6'2" & skinny.I can drive all day in my coupe & be more comfortable than in my modern car.

Cutting down sedans into pickups was a pretty common "farmer mod" back in the
40's and 50's. Some folks did a pretty good job of it. Post a couple pics, if you can.

not stock but a nice look

My opinion] I can never understand why some people want strangers to pick out a color for THEIR car,That should be your decission not someone elses. Pick a color YOU like NOT someone elses. You asked OMO. ken ct.:(:(

Gotta agree with Ken. I wanted to paint my leatherback victoria project black/black/black with the tan top material. Unfortunately I found traces of the original Elkpoint and Kewanee Green during tear down. My friends talked me in to painting it back to factory original saying "you will like the green once everthing is back together". Well everything is almost back together and I still wish it was black. The green just reminds me of all of those dollar bills I spent doing the rebuild. Still smiling though.

Mine is called "Stone Grey", but in pictures looks like it could be black, blue, or green, depending on the light. Any of these dark colors is what I would prefer. If you don't particularily like green like some do, there's a dark blue that looks good also. But like others have said, it's your truck, paint it like you want!
