Y block leaking ouil pump cover...

Have a leak from the oil pump cover ('55 292ci) and upon removing the cover to see what gasket resided underneath found a thin round seal.

The seal barely rises above the valley into which it sits in the pump housing meaning it only just touches the cover.

Can't seem to find these being sold alone, just as part of a full engine kit. Seems silly to spend $100 for a single seal!

Has anyone any advice on whether I can supplement the seal with sealant OUTSIDE the seal?

I would try polishing/flattening the cover plate on a flat surface with some fine emory cloth and a little oil. When it's shiny across the whole surface, clean and reinstall using a good Permatex oil resistant form a gasket. ( just a very little around the outside edges of the pump. ).Soak the thin seal in some mineral spirits to expand it a little and reinstall when installing the plate. Torque to specs.
