Y-Block engine position at timing chain installation

Hopefully this is an easy one...
When assembling a Y-block engine the correct installation position for the timing marks on the crank & cam timing chain gears is:
Both gear timing marks at 3 o'clock with 12 timing chain pins between the marks.

Now for my question...
With the crank & cam in this position is the engine at cyl. #1 TDC on the firing stroke, or is it somewhere else?

Somewhere else.
With 12 pins between the dots it is #6 piston that is on compression stroke.
It takes one more revolution of the crankshaft to bring #1 to the top of compression stroke.

I was trying to save myself a cold trip out to the shop but I went and did it anyway.... and got the same result. :o
Thanks.
