Y Block Camshaft

Hello All,

I need some help finding the correct camshaft for a stock 292 rebuild. The engine has been bored .060" over. The truck is a F100 with a 3 speed manual transmission with what I believe to be a stock rear end with 3.92 gears. This is to remain a stock driver. I've toyed with the T5 transmission swap but I'm not sure.

It was recommended to me to use a cam with a duration of 256/208 a lift of .435 with the stock rockers (1.54") lobe spacing of 110, a lash of .014" for use in an RPM range of 1500 - 4500.

I've located a B8A-6250-C NOS shaft but can't find the specifications. Could someone point me in the right direction????

Many Thanks,
Mike

You might take a look here if you already haven't. The note about the oil groove is important. If you haven't looked into it, the placement of the center cam bearing, grooving it, or grooving the block are all done by different builders. Pretty much eliminates the top end oil problem.

You might also try over at y-blocksforever if you don't get an answer here.

Other than that, if someone local has a Cam Dr., they can tell you the specs on the one you found.

In the Ford Y-Block book by James Eichman, he lists the B8A-6250-C camshaft as only 246 duration and .360 lift with 1.43 rockers. didn't list the lobe center angle. I'm sure it's OK, but sounds on the whimpy side to me.

Typically the 1.43:1 rocker is referred to as "factory" Should be around .451 lift with the 1.54 rockers.

Thanks for all of the input. I'm looking at an Isky 301444 camshaft. It's supposed to be a little more that stock but not much. Its going into a truck that will remain in stock form with the 3 speed and original rear end.

Thanks Again

I have the same camshaft in my recently rebuilt 292 + 0.060". Fitted with 600 cfm holley, stock 56 twin exhaust manifolds in front of an FMX auto with 3.30 diff. Goes real strong on the street.
It has a nice lope to it at idle.
For mine a good choice.

I put the smallest Isky cam (I don't remember the number) in a 312 I built years ago. It would pull down to 10 mph in high gear and wind strong 'till I stopped it at 5500. If idled low it had just a touch of lope. It was a wonderful cam in that engine for my purposes.

What pistons & heads did you use? Any idea what compression ratio you have?

I used ECZ-C heads, cleaned up, new valves, springs and keepers, match ported to gaskets. Don't know what the CR is. The block was decked flat and square and all rotating components balanced.
It does like to run on 98 octane fuel.
