wiring electric gauges

I have the 2 gauge steering column mount from Snyders and looks great.I wired to ignition switch, when switch is on gauges come on,I have temp on 1 volts on other, when running lamp flickers, could it be cause I have it on the ignition switch? is there a better place?

The original ignition system wiring does not accomodate connecting devices to be switched on when the ignition is ON. The running lamp flickers because the points are momentarily grounding out the circuit. If you do not have a pop-out switch you can re-wire the ignition system to put the coil in parallel with the guages. That will allow them to work properly.

That's correct, I have an electric fuel pump and a temp gauge wired to the ignition switch, and I had to modify the connection to the points.

no pop out switch, what do I modify
You'd have to connect the coil dirrectly to the points, then run the power wire to one side of the switch and connect the other coil primary and anything you want switched to the other switch terminal. Just be sure the switch contacts can handle the power going through it. Some of the repro switches I've seen can barely handle the coil current.

Here's a schematic of my charging/ignition circuit. Mine is negative ground, but the connections are the same for positive ground except for the polarities of the coil and the amp meter.
