Which Look Do You Prefer?

I have blackwalls on my sedan, whitewalls on my roadster. I lean towards blackwalls.
My experience with whitewalls is the day you install them is the best they will ever look! (especially if you drive much) IMHO

It has always been a fact that the eye is attracted to light. In the case of a dark car, one's eye would be attracted to a whitewall. That's fact. It's whether you want a viewer's eye to be attracted to the car by first seeing the WWs or to the car itself.

It is a well know fact that Whitewalls were used in showrooms to catch a potential customer's eye. It showed class if you wanted to put out the extra money.

Then came the 60s and 70's when automakers had to cut costs, so the Blackwall became the fad. Now the younger person views the Whitewall as tacky. But not to some such as myself. I prefer the whitewalls on the older (classic) sportsy cars, but blackwalls on the sedans.

But that's just me.

IT'S YOUR CAR, GO FOR IT...... and have FUN doing it.!

I think that the whitewall on the black wheel pulls the eye toward the tires and away from the rest of the car. On some cars that would be a good thing, in your case, not so much.

Blackwalls !! Somehow i've grown to appreciate the simplicity and elegance of blackwalls. i changed from white walls on my coupe several years ago and like the look much better.
Great looking car by the way

With the blackwalls the maroon and black (paint job) is the focal point of the car. When you put on whitewalls the stark white of the tires becomes the focal point. I would perfer people look at my car than some ole tires. ken

I was thinking the same as Ken. The whitewalls pull your eyes away from the car.....as I run my eyes across the photo with the whitewalls, they tend to stop at the tires which makes me feel they are not right for me.

Man I have always liked your color combo.

In my opinion, you have such a beautiful color combination that the addition of the third color (white walls) tends to focus your eye away from the car and to the wheels. That is the result of my viewing your pictures side by side.

Good analysis! I agree.
And it means I won't have to buy new tires. :)

After reading all these replies I can't help but ask this question. Why are WW so bad in terms of attracting the eye when so many cars have wheels that are red, cream, straw, and even green of two variations? Colored wheels attract the eye even more than WW tires!

Ironically, with basically the same car we bought it with Firestone whitewalls. It also had a lot of added glitz (stone gurard, motometer with wings, spoke covers, etc.) and like Barry we called it the circus wagon! I took as much glitz off of it as I could without rework including the whitewalls to tone it down. It now has Goodyear blackwalls. I tend to agree with Tim in that early on in this hobby whitewalls looked ok but soon after all my A's had only blackwalls. I prefer the look that was "back in the day". Now if it is a fifties car or nostalgia streetrod, whitewalls are appropriate.

The black seems to bring out that beautiful paint job. The white distracts the eye. And the black grounds the car aesthetically.
