Which Look Do You Prefer?

Jeff,
I like the black tires better. Model A's just don't look right with whitewalls in my opinion. Have a good trip to FL.

I had the same dilemma with my town sedan. I think both look good, but the WW are a bit classier. I am very partial to the black wheels, which, I think, support WW without making the whole effect too gaudy. As far as authenticity goes, casual inspection of my car shows numerous apostasies on my part beside which the WW pale.

In my opinion, you have such a beautiful color combination that the addition of the third color (white walls) tends to focus your eye away from the car and to the wheels. That is the result of my viewing your pictures side by side.

I went through the same procedure with my car, after reviewing the pictures I took the WW off and put on blackwalls. I am much more pleased with the look. I still have WW on one car and believe they add to that cars color combination.

To all of the above, I will add that since my car is primarily a driver, and I do not have unlimited financial resources, when the WWW Allstates that came with my coupe are worn-out ( probably this spring ), I will probably replace them with blackwall tires, simply from an standpoint of economy.

While I would love to go with a set of "authentic" Firestones, I will probably start-out with Universals, at almost half the cost of Firestones.

I like the look of Gary/IA 's coupe, with the straw wheels and WWW tires.

Once again, we all "know" what Henry put on the car at the factory ( and what he had on his own personal Model A: the '29 Special Coupe, which was black on black, with a red belt, black wheels, back tires)...

Tire color is probably the most controversial and also most easily changed / least invasive change one could make to their Ford... it's not like we're talking about chopping 5 inches out of the cabin...

I'm usually a purist, but I seem to take exception to the "rules" when it comes to wheel-color & tire choice for '28-'29 Fords.

That said, if someone is going to represent their Model A as an "authentic" car, as it left the factory, then it should have all the correct factory colors, wheels & tires included.

My 2 cents...

Looks like Gordon Buehrig had WWW tires in mind when he was designing his Model A Cabriolet...

BLACK, blackwalls look good with dark or light colored wheels. White wall tires look good with dark colored or red wheels. I think that white wall tires look TERRIBLE with light colored or yellow wheels. Its just a matter of taste or prefferance.

You asked for an opinion and that's what you got, lots of opinions. The only one that counts is yours. Here is one more opinion, mine, WHITE!

IMO, the white walls pull ones eye away from the beautiful lines of the car. Especially one done as well as yours. Black, to me, is more elegant.

Whitewall tires were seldom seen back in the day when Model A's were built and driven daily. I guess for the "trailer queen" look it's ok if that is what you have.

I have whites now but when I get new tires im going BLACK. I like the look better plus they don't yellow like white walls. My opinion is black for you car.

BLACK !

there is not a Model A on the face of this earth that looks good with whitewall tires!

I have very strong opinions about that.
but on our 37 Plymouth, whitewalls looked GREAT.
go figure.
