What to look for when purchsing a model A?

Wood. A flashlight, a creeper and poking around with an ice pick. Or buy a Roadster or Phaeton and forget the wood.

All I can say is take the above advice. Know what you want. At the age of 12 I knew that I would own a Model A some day. I bought a 29 tudor. I thought it was what I really wanted. Then I saw how nice a 30 fourdoor was. I bought one of those. I still have that. Then I thought a pickup would be fun to have. it was but it drove like a truck. Now I have a 30 coupe to compliment the fourdoor. I guess I'll never make up my mind until I own all of them. Good luck, and keep us posted as to what you get.

I hope you are Mechanically inclined,or have a deep pocket.I do nearly all the work on mine ,it a pleasure to drive when all things are in working order but your gonna have a few problems along the way and joining a club ,having good advise close at hand will be a God send.

Several years ago we did an article on this very subject in the Model A Times. First off you need to decide what you want to do with the car, is it going to be a show car etc? That will give you a direction. If it is a tour car what kind of touring will you be doing? If it is local short trips in good weather an open car is fine. If you plan on extended trips a closed car works better. For our magazine trips we use a sedan that has been modified for long distance driving, we did an article on that in the magazine showing all the changes we made. It is a good idea to attend a local chapter in your area and talk with folks who are active and look at what kind of cars they are driving. We have several people who join our subscriber Summer Tours that use sedan deliveries for their tour vehicle because of the space to carry luggage etc. (My wife keeps saying we need one too)!

But what ever you choose it is the people in the clubs that make it a great family hobby and we look forward to seeing you along the Model A highway....remember "It is the Journey....not the destination!"
