Hello Jeff, This has been a trend for a long time. My family has been in the Printing and Bindery business for over 100 years [5 genarations] and it is diffently being taken over by the digital market. When I started in 1970 the industry said then that we would be a paperless society by the year 2000. Well that did not happen. In fact as a nation we now use more paper than ever because of the computer. Go figure.AS one after another quit the ink and paper business, and I see in the news that SI will be doing so soon.......
Model A News is going to cheaper and thinner paper for the cover and content.
I don't care for all of it but I guess that is the way it is. The Model A publications that you get in the mail and can hold in your hand are still preffered at least at my house. They are the main reason for belonging to the Natl. Clubs. Outside of the bi-monthly mag the common guy doesn't really benefit that much from belonging.
Guess I'll just hang onto my issues and keep re-reading them like I do Ford Life. 50 plus years of The Restorer makes a heck of a lot of good reading. If it goes to too cheap of paper or on-line only I will have to quit the clubs. Sorry.
I believe that those who can hang on and ride it out will swing back on top.
I get irritated when I read online news and those damn ads pop up. MSNBC, CNN, etc...... I'm back to newspapers.
It'll be similar with some magazines too. Mags have ads, but they're not irritating like mosquitos
I personally like the new acca mag. I guess that makes me a stiff neck yuppy. I'm 35, I guess I fit right in. Although I feel like a child at some of their shows. Nice articles, nice pictures - pretty classy.
I am dreading the day that I have to put a computer in the bathroom.
Newspaper sales are falling here. U can get the news, sport, betting, dating, finance/shares, opinions, ads and anything else the paper has online and it is updated all the time.
In the future there may be a small market for print. Possibly for older folks, who knows?
My kids can't be bothered with newspapers. Anything they want they get online!
