Valve ID 8BA

I purchased a valve kit from Mac's Antique 8BA-6501-KT which should have 16-8BA-6505 valves. They are still researching this question. There were two style valves in the kit see picture, 8 of each. 8 had 8BA on the stem the dark headed valve and 8 had 00212H0309 on stem the polished head. I cut three angles on the pitted hardened seats (hard on stones). The valves lapped in at the center of the face, great. I stuck the cam back in and two adjustable lifters and two assembled valve to check if the length was acceptable. Both set at correct clearance. The block has been hogged out to 3 5/16 3.310 due to the heavy pitting (stuck) I didn't have pistons at the time and needs to be honed to the 3.313 finish. Is there a difference in the valves ? Stem correct size, key way in the correct spot, both the same length. ??? Thanks Zeke

Traditionally, the valves with the dished heads are intake valves and the flat top ones are exhaust valves. Follow that convention.

51-53 valves are shorter ( 4.54" to grove) than 49-50 (4.75" to grove)

Here is a photo showing the 4.54" measurement from valve head to the center of the keeper grove. measure your new valves.

51-53 shorter valve ( 49-50 are longer 4.75" to keeper grove)

I checked the parts book and it says 49-50 is 4.49 and the 51-53 is 4.54 . Mine to center of groove is 4.49. It did not say where measurements were from/to only stem length. Thanks Zeke

Strange, my Ford chassi parts book shows 49-50 4.75" maybe that is the overall length of the49-50? the 51-53 valve is about 4.86" overall length (used valve) I am confused but happy.

I guess the books contain errors, this is the 49-59 parts text, Zeke
