V8 clutch adjustment on a Model A Engine

Quick question on a V8 clutch installed on a stock 1931 Model A engine is the clutch finger adjustment 13/16?

Any suggestions on how to adjust this without pulling the engine?

The way to check the finger height dimensions is on a bench with the flywheel, clutch disk, and pressure plate all bolted down together as it would be on the engine. This is the only way to be able to take the measurement since access is easy. If there is limited or no access then it would not be possible.

Rebuilders likely use a fixture plate with a surface ground disk to take the place of a flywheel and clutch disk respectively. It would be faster and easier that way but the average DIY person would have to use what is at hand.

Thanks for the information that's how I have done it on a standard Model A clutch. The book calls for 5/8 from the top of the clutch plate to the fingers.

I heard the V8 clutch should be 13/16 that what i am still looking for confirmation on is the 13/16 measurement for a V8 clutch configuration.

Are you talking about pedal travel? 3/4" to 1" is about right. It's adjustable from the outside linkage.
Jim I am talking about the clutch fingers measurement not the pedal travel. That will be set after I have the correct clutch fingers adjustment which I believe is 13/16th but still looking for conformation on that measurement.

I remember Bruce Lancaster stating it was 11/16" in a past thread on 9-inch Long type V8 clutch covers. There was a service bulletin from Ford on this check but I don't know the date of it. It may be in the Canadian Ford shop manual.

PS: I found it in the Canadian Ford 1939 through 1948 shop manual page 116. Using a 0.340 plate instead of the clutch disc, the measurement is taken from the rear most surface of the cover to the rear of the fingers at the adjuster it should be 11/16" but only on the 9-inch Long clutch. The 10-inch Long type is 15/16". There are other procedures but they are for use with special fixtures and different measuring equipment. If using a clutch disk, it should be measured for thickness and figuring the difference between the disk and 0.340" gauge. If the plate has a Marcel plates between the linings and the disk then remember that they crush down when the pressure plate is bolted down. That's why they recommend a gauge plate.
