upgrading fuel system in my 51 ford ???

Nice job.

Here's my $0.02 that you didn't ask for: Ditch the anodized AN fittings and the braided hose, the blue wire loom and the yellow plug wires. To me, it looks like Pep Boys under that hood.

Have to agree. My 2¢, looks more like you are getting ready to drop in a 350 chevy with the 3/8' fuel line oversize filter and talk of a permanent elec. fuel pump. Too over-thought and over-kill for a stock or even some modified flatheads.

Nice job cleaning up the carb. Just don't clearcoat it, you dribble gas on it and it will look terrible, not correct finish in any case!

Thanks guys.... I'm not planning on clear coating the carb just going to leave it like it is... I won't drill the 97... The plan is to run the 94 untill I do the 12v conversion with a bubba's dizzy.... I may switch to the 97 then or I may just keep the 94 on ... Eventually I'm gonna run a 2+2 manifold but that's in the distant future.....

As far as under hood looks I like the an and braided lines ... But I agree about the wire loom, the plugs and loom were on there when I got the car.... I will ditch the Loom as I continue to work on her... I've already trashed about 20 ft or more of it , everything was covered in the stuff even the hood prop....
3/8 may be overkill as far as fuel line size and the purists are already cursing but it's ok.. Eventually the car will be in the 300cu in range with double or tripple carbs it still may be overkill but better to be oversized than undersized... And really under the hood is the only place anyone will even notice

What do u mean about trouble... I'm just curious what would u recomend

Pieces of tape have been known to break off and screw up fuel systems, a better choice would be something like non-hardening Permatex. Either #3H in a can or #2 in a tube.
(Teflon tape is more useful on water pipe.)

Thanks for the info guys... I could see where the issue could be with the tape getting Into the fuel system.. I've seen it cause issues before with natural gas and water lines out in the field... I work as a service tech for a company that specializes in commercial kitchen equipment and hvac-r.... One trick I've learned and employed here is start the tape 2-3 threads down and use no more than 1 or 2 full wraps.. That seems to keep the tape out the gas fuel or water flow... Now u guys got me second guessing my methods ... I may pull it and go with something else since I haven't hooked anything up permanent yet only the carb and there is no tape on it....

Yea why does he think he needs 3/8 gas line,he will only have finding fittings a problem, personally hes opening up a big can of worms and doesent know what hes getting to with all his dream modifications. God help him. ken ct OMO. Get rid of the tape.Proper gasoline fittings DONT NEED ANYTHING ON THEM.

This is a low pressure system (2-3lbs). The AN fittings and NPT threads are usually adequate on their own to stop leaks.

Thanks for the input I never took into consideration the low fuel pressure being a factor and not needing the Teflon ... As mentioned before i tend to over engineer things... I most likely will pull the tape... I should get the rest of the an fittings in either today or tomorrow.. Ok I can get the rest of the stuff plumbed under the hood... Good thing I have all of you to keep me on the straight and narrow LOL

Looks like he has the fittings. End of day, it's his car. If he likes it, good for him. If you don't, look elsewhere!:p

You need to use a quality thread sealant on your filter and fuel pressure regulator (all) tapered pipe threads, and preferably with Teflon, but not Teflon tape. :)

Ok just came in from the garage first off I got rid of all the Teflon tape... Went with a ptfe liquid sealant very sparingly on the tapered threads..... So now none of the old timers will go into cardiac arrest... ;) ... Also pressure washed out insude of gas tank ... You should see the sludge that came out of there... Dried inside of tank using compressed nitrogen and then a little kerosene splashed around to prevent rust from forming... It's setting under the heat lamps to get it completely dry.... I think I'm done for the evening though...

One thought comes to mind when reading these posts. Slow down! Go in one direction at a time. Forget the 97 for now. Get your present fuel system in order first. What to do next? Make yourself a list - goals -work in that direction. 12V system's I think are big improvement, work on that next. I agree about cleaning up your engine compartment but then I like mine as close to original as possible. If you like AN fuel lines - keep them! Remember, it's your car - your dreams. Dreams are the foundation of our hobby. BTW- nice looking car. I, too, have '51. Wanted (dreamed) one for quite a while. Mine is a club coupe, 52 Merc engine, 3sp, no o/d. Keep dreaming. Jeff
