Tool tray covers

The tool tray covers that came with my ‘39 Tudor standard are made of something like a high density card board. Smooth on the bottom and an impressed wood grain on the top. I’m thinking these might be the original or correct replacements. I’ll post some photos in my album. Are they original or original type? If so how can I take the warp out?

The authentic boards were plywood.

Would someone share a photo of their tool tray cover. The ones I have fit below the trunk floor. I see the lip on the front of the trunk floor for the flush boards but am puzzled by where the rest at the back.

Here's my '41 Merc covers. Nothing supports the very rear edges...only the front and sides are supported, and that's enough. They are made from budget friendly 7/16" OSB and double coated with POR15.

Both boards rest atop the sheet metal braces in the back of the body.
Only the left board is fastened to the metal fool with screws. The right side board is held beneath a small metal tab at the very far right and the steel "tab" that pivots at the center.

Here are photos of the my original 1940 Ford coupe tool trays. UPDATE: They are plywood and measure exactly 3/8 thick. I added little black pads on the backside of the right tray so that it would remain snug on the metal recess and not rattle around. I think that is why they sit flush with the trunk floor. As "Kube" said the left side is held in place with screws as shown. Right side is held in place by little swivel at center floor trunk latch brace. On the 1940 each tray fits right up to the corners and side panels of the trunk on each side. Both tool tray covers appear to be the same size and are the mirror image of each other. The thumb hole in the right hand tray is 1 in. dia.

You are spot on by applying that material. Originally, along both straight sides of each board a piece of duck cloth was glued in an attempt to eliminate any possible squeaks. The cloth was about 1" in width.
I have witnessed a few original boards that had the material stapled.

WOW! Thanks "Kube" for veryifying my "anti rattle" pads. i guessed right. Didn't know they were OEM.
I also corrected my screw count in previous post from 5 to 3.

Thanks for the photos, clears things up for me. My boards were cut to fit lower in the tray. My center brace does not have the rails to hold the boards so maybe a little fabrication is in order. Having them flush looks a lot nicer.

These photos, although that of a coupe, should allow clarity as to what your sedan should appear as.

Thanks for Kube for posting those photos showing the tool storage area with sound deadener lining.
QUESTIONS:
Are both tool tray covers suppose to have the 1 inch hole?
Also, are there no screws holding down the left side tray cover?
My '40 (early production) has 3 screws.
