I'm replacing a tired throwout bearing on my Tudor. Getting the old one off took some persuasive impacts with my trusty hammer, but it is now out of the way.
To install the new bearing I followed some advice on heating the bearing to roughly 220F and cooling the carrier, but it did not result in an easy install. My bearing supplier is happy to report that I am now ready to take my second attempt at this task.
I measured the ID of my bearing (2.0535") and the carrier tapers from 2.0555" to 2.0635". Do one of you know an ideal dimension for the carrier that will make this installation work without brinelling another bearing? Or is there a better method for getting this done?
Thanks
