Throw out bearing installation

I'm replacing a tired throwout bearing on my Tudor. Getting the old one off took some persuasive impacts with my trusty hammer, but it is now out of the way.
To install the new bearing I followed some advice on heating the bearing to roughly 220F and cooling the carrier, but it did not result in an easy install. My bearing supplier is happy to report that I am now ready to take my second attempt at this task.
I measured the ID of my bearing (2.0535") and the carrier tapers from 2.0555" to 2.0635". Do one of you know an ideal dimension for the carrier that will make this installation work without brinelling another bearing? Or is there a better method for getting this done?

Thanks

You don't want it so loose you can put it on by hand. If you do it will spin on the carrier and ruin it. It must be a press fit, meaning with a vice or press. The inner part of the bearing must not turn.

The car is a 30. I'm going to polish the mount a little and give thermodynamics one more shot.
My first attempt included a vise, but things got a little out of alignment, as did my patience.
If I get too loose, I suspect some red locktite will do the trick.

I looked in a bearing interchange and it shows the ID of the bearing as 2.0625.
The hub I measured tapered from 2.0645 to 2.0595.

I just installed one today for my '30. The bearing is a Federal Mogul brand from Bratton's. I used my vise to press it on. It started fairly easy and required more force as it progressed. (tapered fit) Transmission and bell housing are cleaned and painted and the new disc & pressure plate installed. Now if I can just get the ****** back in!

Second try was a charm. I used emory cloth to polish the casting enough to allow the bearing to slide on about 1/3 of the way down the taper by hand at room temp. Heating the bearing and cooling the casting allowed it to go on all the way without a press. After returning to room temp, it seems to be on there for life. Both bearings I tried were also Federal Mogul. Sure wish I knew why the first round went so poorly. I appreciate your comments.
