Third Brake light

Just wondering what your experience has been adding a third brake light and what you recommend. With so many people with their noses in their phones I would like to add a third brake light to my 32 sedan. I have converted to 12 volts by the way thanks Tom Gormley

Not on a '32 but here is what I did on my '39 p/u and '54 Ranch Wagon

Best part --- the owner is still doing business the way he was over 20 years ago. Place your order, mail a check out to them for the invoice price, and if you like call, him on the phone.
Just placed an order for my 'new' vehicle. It will need the split window adapter so that was ordered also.

I made a license mount plate with LEDs mounted on the sides many years ago. They work with my directionals and brake lights and are very noticeable.
I bought the strips from a motorcycle parts supplier.

I like this idea.

It would be great if the third brake light mentioned earlier was made with a "L shaped" bracket molded into the front of the light so that light was recessed and could be installed as one continuous unit over the interior split window divider and still be attached with suction cups or "stickies". I emailed the company but, no reply as yet.

Old Porcelain Triple A plate topper , hanging on shop wall for long time.
Searched for an Oval , Tail Light / Brake Light to match.
3/4” thick chuck of Aluminum.
Friend took to work and used a Water 💦 Jet to cut curvature inside and out.
When traveling with other car guys, they love the signal it sends back to them.

Why do we need a 3rd brake light.
Because people are stupid and have to tail gate an old car / truck when in front of them.

I like this set up IF I was forced to use led lighting. The only thing I would do different is to make it a dedicated brake light only.

Lets face it, if the other persons face is in their phone then they're not going to see any thing anyhow.....even new cars with the whole rear covered in led light still get hit.

On my cars that have a single tail/brake light they get another old work style light under the bumper as a brake light only. The best hope you have is for something that wasn't on before that is now on to catch their attention. All the other cars have gotten led retrofit 1157 red bulbs in the stock housings.

This is NOT a Ford warning. But I have another light for my '28 Tudor when the time comes.

on my '37 split window i fashioned my own piece of aluminum stand attached to brakelighter with black ziptie in middle behind split window molding along with the small suction cups supplied worked perfect. the key aspect about mounting the brakelighter up high like all modern cars is that the tail lights on these '30s-40s cars is that their tailights are mounted so low which is cool looking but the way todays drivers distracted and tailgaters that they are while talking/texting only use peripheral vision when behind the wheel. Tom.

farmertom: If possible, please post photos of how you mounted the brakelighter. Thanks.

sorry,i dont have the '37 any longer i now have a '51 crestline. i think i can describe how i did in stall. i save every thing. i had taken out a couple of the alum. palm stays from worn out wrist brace or you can find a 6-7" piece of alum. strap just so after you have bent about an 1" platform for the brake lighter to ziptie to rest on and on the package tray end bend about 3/4-1" to rest there no need to drill and screw into package tray as brakelighter does not weigh hardly anything,if it does skate put a piece of double face tape on bottom. i didnt paint the alum. piece, polish it if you like. easy. the ziptie criss cross the brake lighter to top bend. i think i made the alum. strap piece long enough to position the light about 1&1/2" above bottom of split window or however far you want it to sit.however i think it looks best close to bottom of window like i did. by the way the small black zipties dissapear cause the brakelighter housing is blak and the crissedcrossed lands directly behind the window trim. hope this helps ya. Tom. the wires to light i found a opening in the metal package tray in left corner same for the trunk floor to bring wires up.to connect to brakelighter wires.
