Strange front motor mount?

My 30 coupe has alot of vibration. Decided to check the motor mounts. The front one consisted of a big rubber donut on the center stud under the front yolk. The donut just sits on top of the crossmember. It actually comes up around the bottom of the pully in front. On the bottom of the crossmember where the stud comes through there is a piece of 1 1/2" square metal that acts as a washer on the stud just under the nut. The square has a slot in it where the stud comes through. There are no springs anywhere on it. The back mount appears stock although the rubber parts are cracked and hard. I will replace them with them with new stock rubber pieces.
The crank handle actually lines up well. I'm new but I have searched everywhere to find a similar setup and can't find anything like it. Could it be a farmer fix, or some older aftermarket setup? I plan on just replacing the front mount with a new stock setup with the springs. Could this be causing my vibration problem?

Well I changed out the front mount today. I also removed the radiator to make it easier and I plan on replacing the radiator while everything is apart. I also removed the bottom 2 bolts on the rear mount and loosened the top bolts. It was a real bear removing the old donut. It was a solid rubber donut about 2 inches in diameter and an inch think that sat on a steel washer under the oringinal bracket. No springs were used in the mount. Was this an aftermarket setup? Anyway I put the stock setup in and it seems to have more movement. I tightened to castle nut only enough to get the cotter pin in. The crank seems to line up well through the guide. I will replace the rear mounts tomorrow. I bought a frame speader to make it easier. I had a hard time getting the radiator. Everyone was out of the heavy duty 8 fin one (Syders and Brattons). I ordered one from Macs but they charge $45. more for the same radiator. Brattons told me the radiator maker was having trouble getting copper, causing the delays. I'm going to change the steel fan for an aluminum one while it's apart.
