stock rebuilt

thanks for all the information !
no tools, i ment to say lapping!
i got block and head washed pretty good yesterday. if weather stays nice i will leave early monday morning . to be at this guy shop for 8. he seems to know his stuff, rebuilt flatheads before. i will get him to recheck all my measurements, and hopfull everything is ok. then he will price me for parts and labour to be done.
valves ! i think i just got lucky! my brother was talking with his buddy who knows a retired ford guy . this guy lives not far away from where i,m taking engine . he bought all the tools from the ford delearship when he retired, and does valve jobs as a hobby!
once i get ok on engine ,i will contact him. and in worse case its gonna be new valves with adjustable tappets.

evening boys!
here,s the model split guide i have.

i think my crank pully is wore! is there aftermarket ones that would be the same.or can it be sleeved!

how about water pumps! ! i would like to replace them one has a little slack the other turns nice. anything to watchout !

i checked my wristpins in a vise and there,s some slack.

i guess i should of listen to my buddy! he said it runs , run it that way. probably wouldn,t of run long though, with all the rust and dirt that came out of the water jackets. oil would of leaked badly from the front seal. didn,t get no news from engine guy,so i phone him today. he said it needed cylinder bored ,they are wore to much. and a crank polish is not enought. he was waiting on an estimate for parts, and would phone me then. with a assembled price ,and i assemble it price.
guy works alone, seems to take his time. he had a few engines in the shop. one was a really slick looking motor . seemed tidy and well organized shop.i,m afraid and anxious at the same time. started prepping wife for worse case scenario!

just feels good to talk about it!
thanks brian

I got an 8BA back from the shop last fall. I supplied all of the parts (except for few minor ones he found were needed; one valve, a couple seals etc.) The block was tested and cleaned, bored .125, one cylinder was sleeved because of a flaw in the casting. The crank was ground .10-.10, the rods rebuilt, and he did the basic assembly. The total bill was around $1300. Just a figure you can use for comparison purposes. The guy hadn't done a flathead V8 for a while, but has done a lot of 8N's and 9N's, so I have quite a bit of confidence in him.

he phoned yesterday, gave him the ok ! he said it motor should be ready in 3 to 4 weeks. budget is more than planned, but reasonable with all he will do. going with newer valves and 1 peace guides no adjustable lifters. no front clip on truck so i will install old water pumps ,just to be able to run it. and that i will be broke!

now i got to check my transmission 4 speed spur gears.

Glad you're on your way with it. I always say that all our old 'projects' take at the very least . . . twice as long as we thought . . . and three times the money! If we really knew the 'truth' going in, we'd not start any of them! LOL (Just like doing a remodel on a kitchen - same exact deal).

Take care and best of luck.
D

motor should be ready this week, no news yet ! i been cleaning parts ,got my transmission check ! lucky i had a spare one for parts. i was cleaning the intake and noticed a pcv plunger kinda of contraption! it was made by donaldson and stamped clean every 10,000 miles. but i remember when i removed the oil pan there seemed to be a breather like thing missing on the oil pan. seemed like it lined up with a passaged in the block. is there any changes or modification to do with this pcv system!
