Steering column removal

Hey Randy good to hear you are making progress though! The resistor being broken could be it. Take along a wiring diagram and a volt meter with you to look for continuity and then voltage.

What do you think was hanging up the steering column? It seems it was still stuck after you got the old stuff pulled out or was there still part of it in there?

Great fun working on these things ... most of the time!

Glenn, Where the key cylinder had been drilled out - I was able to clean it up and install a new key cylinder. The steering wheel still did not turn until I soaked and soaked it and finally I was able to get the release pin to move and free up the steering wheel. That was over a six week period. I looked over the old resistor and lightly cleaned it up but that still may be my trouble.

Randy, is the problem it not turning over or not firing?

Hey JSeery, Good to hear from you. I have not hot wired the engine since I burned up that first coil. This morning when I got the last of the wiring harness installed, I made the last hookups to the starter solenoid and then I turned the toggle switch to "on" and I then turned the key switch on and hit the starter button and nothing happened. The battery was hooked up, but absolutely nothing happened. No fire - no smoke - no noises - no action. Like I said, I am going to work on it next week. Had work to do this afternoon. Thanks, Randy

Read what I posted back a couple of post. The starter button is not connected to the key, ignition switch or anything else. It is basically a short on the starter solenoid. Check the solenoid by connecting a wire from the center stud to ground, if the starter turns you have a wiring issue between the solenoid and the starter button. If it doesn't turn you may have a bad solenoid. There should be a wire from that center stud directly to the starter button and the button is the ground (when pressed).

Thanks, I will try that next week. Even tho I burned up a coil, it was a great relief to know that the motor would run - and it ran very WELL. At least now, I know that the problem is not with the motor.

I really do appreciate everyones help with my truck. It is great that you will take the time to try and help me - even if it takes a while to sink in on my part.

I am much obliged!

Randy
