did anyone make an adaptor to put a ford srod trans behind an 8ba flat head.if so does anyone have a picture ?.i think i found one but not sure.

I am not too familiar with the SROD, but if it has the same bolt pattern on top (narrow) and bottom as the 8BA bell housing, then you may not need an adapter.

In putting a top loader four speed behind a 312, I had to make the following modifications

The input shaft was about 3/8 too long. Just cutting the end off this amount took care of this (the small end that goes into the pilot bushing was the problem). Just check to make sure that the part just behind the small end does not hit the pilot bushing. Also check how much you cut before cutting as the 8BA spacing may not be the same as a Y Block.

The bearing retainer was a little too big to fit into the bell housing opening. I was able to get it trimmed down to fit.

You will have to get a compatible clutch disc to fit the SROD splines.

As I said, this was for a 4 speed behind a Y Block. The 8BA/SROD may be different. Measure and measure again before any cutting.

If the SROD trans has the same bolt pattern as a top loader Model Engineering/Just 32 makes an adapter. I have one bolted up to a top loader on the floor in my shop. I can post pictures tomorrow afternoon if you think it will help.

the bolt pattern is narrower on top than on bottom.and there is no sshaft for the clutch fork.the forks works off a ball stud.ibought it at a sale.the bolt pattern on the engine side fits an 8ba block.im just trying to figue out what trans its for.its aftermarket for sure.i dont know how to post pics.its not for a t-5.

A Ford srod trans will only have the later bellhousing pattern. You can drill the early pattern in it because there is enough meat in the case to allow. Keep in mind the aluminum srod is a weak trans. If you want to go that way, look for the iron case 3+1 top loader used in pickup and vans in 1977 and 1978 they can be identified by the single bellhousing bolt pattern, a large bulge on the right side to clear the o/d gear on the cluster, and have an external shift linkage with the front shift lever facing down instead of up like the other two. I have one sitting in my garage right now waiting for a new home or the next project I drag home.

There was an earlier toploader bolt pattern. It is narrow at the
top and wider at the bottom. (the bottom bolt on the passenger
side is kicked over about 1/2" or maybe 3/4" toward the starter)
This narrow pattern toploader would have been '64 or earlier.
Trans came with a 25 spline main shaft....
