Seems my Speedo Cable rested up against a Header Exhaust Pipe of my Resto Mod.

Anyone know of the correct routing and locations of the hold down clamps??

We're in Cadiz, Espana today!!

Will try and find Ric's tomorrow in Casablanca.

Had a similar issue on my 57. So found new U shaped clips and mounts near the fire wall or basically the upper floor board. Close to the steering column. You really just need like one in the right spot.

Phew! Am I ever glad to be back home!!

Since my car is a Resto Mod, I just can't go to a parts store and request a new sheath and cable.
The cable at the HEAD (GM Term) is standard but at the Trans it's now a an AOD. I guess I should measure the length of both and determine what type of gear is on the other end.

Is it possible to drive the car with the cable disconnected? Would Trans Fluid spill out everywhere?

I guess? any Speed Shop should be able to match it all up, right??

Speed Shop? No. However, there are cable manufacturers that probably can make whatever you need. Don't expect it to be as cheap as an off-the-shelf, mass-produced cable made off-shore.

You should also be able to find a plug that will fit the hole to prevent leakage. You could then use a GPS for speed, or just move with the flow of traffic. I don't think John Law would put a target on your car.

This sort of thing for routing. For a replacement just measure and check for universal ones specific to your make trans and speedo. If it melted it's probably aftermarket anyhow.

Yeah just unplug the cable at the speed and drive away.
It's already toast anyhow
I might have toasted your gear as well. So when you pull the lower part check to see if the gear is scored or cracked. You can reuse the clip and order a new gear on eBay.

If you need/want to drive the car until you can find a replacement, cut the trans adapter off the cable housing and use that.

if you need a new cable - instead of getting a fancy/smancy custom cable, once you find the length you want look in ebay for a Mustang or other Ford cable. They come in different lengths so you should be able to find one close to your length. Be sure to check the ends before you buy ( to match yours) as there were some changes in the later years.

If you have the original speedometer, a 57 cable, C4 cable, or AOD cable of the proper length should work. I just read that the transmission-end of the cable is the same for C4 and AOD, and I know that the end of the 57 cable & speedometer gear are the same as the C4. Ford changed the cable in 57.

He might have an aftermarket one as it seems to have melted in contact with the exhaust. The 57 Ford one are metal cladded actually most early oem ones are.
