speaking of Facebook..............

Did this just happen to be on the Dallas area facebook a few weeks back? One just like it without title was a very good price.

No, this was bought in Northern NJ. also a very good price.

All Ive heard over the yrs is how much model As keep going up in price, however by what Ive bought, quite the opposite has been true.

Look at the print below and notice on 1.00" intervals there is a fraction. The issue is you must find a centerline, then mark it off 90° to the centerline in one-inch intervals, ...and then take their bizarre fractions and convert them to decimals where you can accurately intersect the sweeping curves on a piece of layout paper. Then when you are finished, you cut it out as an overlay. Because of this and having multiple angles, sometimes you must make3, or 4, or 5 (-or more) templates and keep overlaying in both directions. When was the last time you used fractions such as 43/64th, 59/64th, 3/64th, 31/64th, 55/64th, 31/32nds, etc. to layout measurements on a wood item. Then you must layout a whole new set of sweeps when figuring the perpendicular angle of that wood piece. Again, we have found Ford's engineering prints for Wood to be very stressful to work with because missing one number generally changes the entire shape ...often turning that piece into firewood.

Land surveying class. You would be surprised to know how accurate land surveys are. Even more accurate now days with the advent of electronics.

I was a surveyor and what you say is spot on. The accuracy to which we worked makes even the very best machinist look - words are failing me but you get the idea. I am not convinced that electronics is a match for a decent, well trained old school surveyor though.
Here's an example. One minute of arc is 1 inch wide at 100 yards distant. One second of arc is 1/60 of that (0.017 inch at 100 yards). That is on a 200 yards diameter circle. Imagine marking every 0.017" all the way around a 600 foot diameter circle. Now, the scale inside the theodolite is about 3 inches diameter. Now, stretch your mind to image how close together are those makings when it is scaled down. To get accurate readings, the vertical axis of the instrument MUST be exactly concentric with the scale. All of this precision is in an instrument made to be picked up, thrown over the surveyor's shoulder and carried to the next point.
The first such instrument was made in 1929 and was so reliable and precise that in the deep underground gold mines in South Africa, they used them mounted up side down.
To get accurate readings, observations are done under a shelter protecting the instrument from wind and sunshine. If you were to set the telescope (excellent optics) on a target and allow the sun to shine on it, you can watch it move off the target as the sun causes the tripod legs on that side to expand.
With a lifetime's experience in this field, I could regale you for pages and pages here but I think that will do.

I had a nice antique builders instrument (level) on a tripod. Not as accurate as what Synchro is talking about, but a nice brass tool. I used it to layout my house in the mountains. I loaned to a friend. His son burned down the garage and with it the level. Not sure what happened to the son but he probably turned out to be an arsonist.

so Ive freshened the tires and tubes with good used ones.
ATF in the engine. Freed the ****** out of 2nd and she now rolls.............

running board changed out. Valve cover off and PB Blasted, though it looks pretty good as is. Hopefully inside a week or two, the engine frees up.

Think Im going with a steel insert for the roof. This is a low budget car and have no interest in going upside down on her. Interior is a wreck, but that will be saved for the future.

insert that cost nothing but scraps in the barn............

Though this isnt authentic, it was done numerous times to save cars, so what I have done. a 2200. roof wasnt in the cards.
