I'll try with shutting the valve off then running out of gas first.
Then I'll try the 1/8th inch with the float.
The carb was rebuilt after I bought it from a fella who claimed he'd rebuilt it....????
Thanks to all, 1st Car Show tomorrow, looking at Best in Class (1900-1949) again..LOL
WELL, Kid,you shouldnt have to run the carb bowl out of gas to stop the fuel smell.
a bad shutoff, float valve or improper float level are the most common things.
WELL, Kid,
Hate to "pop your bubble"--BUT HERE @ 108 Degrees & a "perfect" Zenith, park that dude, in the garage, HOT, with the carb FULL of gas & that sucker will boil the gas in the carb, PUKE fumes out the bowl vent & out of the carb throat & once, Pat smelled it in the BATHROOM, EVEN!!!& I wuz in a HEAP of TRUBBLE
dAD
HERE WE GO AGAIN! Minerva DID NOT overheat, even on 112 degree days, with a 160 degree thermostat, & a Walker,, 10 fin per inch radumator!!Drill a couple holes in ur t-stat and that wont happen

Simple, if you can see or feel the liquid have a leak! If you can only smell it may be vapourisation ( carb, tank, manifold, exhaust system). Thanks to gravity ALL carb leaks and most fuel line leaks can manifest themselves as a leak/drip at the bottom of the carb. Do a search on this forum and you will get the full list of sources of leaks on carbs (about 12 possibles) ,fuel lines and connections. It's one of those.... I still find a slight leak at the bottom of the carb on my '30 coupe while sitting parked. I have the gas valve shut off. ....![]()
great job
it feels good doesnt it
Here is one other line; is it really a leak or is it just the raw gas running back down the inside of the manifold and carb when you shut it down. How far open is the GVA, could you be running too rich?
