Does anyone else suffer from this while working in the shop?
I heated up a frozen part with the Oxy / acetylene torch got it loose then set the torch down then turned around and grabbed the part to clean on wire wheel.:confused:
I guess there is a Bad ground or loose connection between the brain and the hand / Brain said LET GO / LET GO NOW
The hand said WHAT ????
Needless to say the brain proved it point OUCH !!!!!

Nah 31 chevy I don't agree. It happens Bill. The thing is when it happens you need to recognize there is somthing else going on in your mind. I was taught to step back. Look for the bigger picture and deal with the distraction (usually something like a "forest for the trees" kind of thing. Also I've found an excellent remedy for burns to be SMART BALANCE buttery spread ASAP. It really works to restore the fluids lost in the scorch. Hope you heal well.

A Bones, I step back and usually trip over some thing. LOL LOL :)
It's true as you said some thing else on the Brain,A lot of time my brain is gone on to the next step of what ever I am doing.
One Good thing with the new hurt the old hurt don't feel so bad. :D

NEVER EVER put butter, fake butter, grease, or anything that won't let air to the wound, it traps the heat in and will increase the injury
As for the memory, it's a purple hat

Aloe Vera is good for burns or Aloe straight from the plant is better. Something else many don't know, diesel fuel is good for an injury. Several years ago, I stepped upon the back of a dozer that had a cable controlled blade and didn't realize I was putting my hand in the winch. The operator saw what was happening and stopped the movement and as it coasted to a stop, it started pulling my finge into the wionch line spool. When I pulled the finger out it was really mangled but the operator took me straight to the diesel pump and washed it in fuel. It went thru the healing process and never really hurt or was sore much at all.

I tend to do things like that when I'm pushing to get it done fast, why am I trying to get it done fast? I don't know, I forgot.

I think that may be true, Because I was the Mechanic for the family owned fleet of Trucks / Loaders and such, It always amazed me how covered with Fuel / oil / grease
You would get and when you washed up you would find all kinds of cuts scrapes Bruises.
And Nether any one working with me or I ever got any sort of infection. GO FIGURE

As a kid in the gas station when I got overly messy my dad would wash me with a gas (leaded) soaked rag. Who knew? Anyhoo, not to argue... Just facts. Smart Balance is kept in the fridge. The heat of the burn turns it to liquid. I've watched blisters vanish, and pain subside in minutes.

when i worked for the airlines we had a frist aid kit it contained a packet of jell for burns. i can,t tell you how great the stuff worked . it came in a foil package you riped it open & put it on the burn .we had some guys with real bad burns & when they were taken to the hospital the doctors always said that stuff greatly reduiced the damage . every shop schould have it handy i wish i could remember what the name of the stuff was. may be some one on the barn knows

You just got to be extra careful. It is so easy to hurt yourself in the garage and even in the house. Keep stuff off of the floor in the work area. Watch areas where kids and dogs play--they don't pick up their stuff when done playing.

I almost accidentally severed my left pinky while opening my truck door at a gas station (my fault). I didn't take care. Lucky for me I was able to save my finger. Just got to slow down and be careful. Several years ago I picked up a hot curling iron that my wife left plugged in. Ouch. Just be careful guys, Or that "Senior Moment" will call you from the future.

I don't recollect it happening to me. Uh, what was it again? :)

Seriously, yes I have noticed it more and more lately. The short-term stuff especially. Ask what happened 40, 50 years ago and it seems I can remember better than what I did yesterday.

I don't think it's old-timers' disease that I have because I'm only 61. Recently my son (36) mentioned to me his getting forgetful about things. It must be hereditary.

IN HS welding shop I did something similar. The instructor grabbed me and hustled me over to the shop sink. He turned the cold water on full blast and put my hand under it. He made me keep my hand under the faucet for at least ten full minutes. I kept saying "isn't that enough?" but he insisted on keeping the cold water flowing over the area for what seemed forever.

He knew what he was doing, 'cause the burn never blistered or developed. So cold water and long immersion may do the trick.

As far as burns when we bulit our first go kart (I was about 5yo) we rode it around for hours. Finally it ran out of gas and we stopped it and started talking as I layed my hand on the muffler. It was so hot I didn't feel it at first. Now I've grown acustomed to placing down a tool, forgetting where Iput it, walking around the garage and finding it where I started.

There is a burn ointment known as KIP.
Works wonders, reduces pain, and heals up fast, with no scar.
I have used it for 40 years.

Bruce
