I am in the process of rebuilding the steering box for my 40 truck. I am looking for advice on the process to peen or swag the ends of the pin holding the gear in place???

Thanks
I had thought about that but was concerned about the needle bearings???
I can use my tig if there isn't an issue with the bearings!!!

You’d have to really put the heat to it for the bearings to cook. I highly advise you get the side shims to fit perfectly, it might not be a straight drop in situation. I had one that had tight side shims and it didn’t function properly when assembled. The steering was very hard to turn.

If you do tack weld with a MIG, make sure to cover everything to prevent splatter ruining the smooth surfaces.

Thanks alchemy
I had read something about the side shims and new gear not fitting and low and behold even using the existing ones it's too tight!!!! I'm taking them to a machine shop tomorrow to have them ground to the proper sizing!!!!
