Removing roler from 37-48 sector

I have a nice 37-48 sector except the threads are shot from some hammering. I have an otherwise nice sector that needs a roller. How do you remove the shaft for the roller? Is it beveled or just mushroomed over on the ends? Both ends the same? Die grind untill it will release? Heavy press fit? THANKS for any help!

I've noted that some are flat next to the bore and some are beveled. They were most likely squeezed like a rivet in a large press fixture. Most appear to have been heated during the process and have the tell tail blue color. I would try grinding unless clearance won't allow you to get close enough to prevent grinding the shaft up.

I grind one end off with a carbide bur in a die grinder. When the mushroom end is ground thin enough, you can knock the pin out with a punch. Be carefull not to lose any of the needle bearings.

A suggestion for reinstalling is to cut one of the pins (or a dowel) to the exact length of the roller and thrust washers. Then you can slide the whole assembly in place in the sector without losing the needle bearings. You can then push the other pin in and push your shortened pin or dowel out. This will keep you from fighting the needles.

Then just weld one end of the pin in place and you should be good. Make sure you have enough clearance in your thrust washers, as the sector will tighten up a little when you weld the pin in.

Hope that helps.
