Rebuilt carb

Hi, I purchased a rebuilt carburetor, It has new paint in the bowl area. The paint apparently flowed in thru the overfill hole. I can’t help but think this can’t be right. Any opinions will be appreciated, thanks.

Take apart and use a fine drill bit to clean. Twirl the bit with your fingers, not in an electric drill. Blow out with air and done.

Sorry if I was not clear. There is a good amount of paint in the bowl, it flowed right into the bowl from the over flow hole. Again there is a substantial amount of paint in the bowl not just in the overflow hole. Thanks

Many paints are soluble in ethanol gasoline. Soak the your carburetor in it for a day or two, then rinse it out a few times.

That may not hurt anything, but, try a good choke/carburetor spray cleaner in the bowl and see if that helps.

It depends on what type of paint it is as to whether it's a problem or not, as well as how the surface was repaired before the paint touched it. Few people ever acknowledge that, from the factory, Zenith carbs were dipped in paint. They were coated inside and out. Anyone who has ever bead blasted a carb that still has remnants of original paint can tell you it holds on with a vengeance. I paint all my rebuilds with PPG epoxy primer, inside and out, and have never had one returned because the paint caused a problem on the inside of the carb. If the paint on the outside of your carb doesn't lift from contact with gas, it shouldn't lift on the inside of the carburetor either. Just my experience.

Well I installed the carburetor, I ran the vehicle for about thirty min. And when I parked it gas was coming out of the overflow. The seller said I could clean it out and so I did. I performed a test of blowing in the fuel line while slowly lifting the float and the needle valve was operating as it should I suppose. I installed the carb again and gas did not come out the overflow so I thought I was ok. Maybe twenty minutes later gas came out the overflow without ever starting the engine. I installed a brand new glass sediment bowl with a paper gasket and I also use an in line paper gas filter. When I picked up the carburetor it was loosely wrapped in planting wrap and dust fell from the wrapping as I opened it. Of coarse in hind sight I should have questioned this but I was eager to get my pickup running again. Has anyone received a new rebuilt carb without proper packaging? Thanks again
